Going from here to here within one sentence.
33:02
Yeah, I have a few answers for that.
33:04
I think I had to fall in love as an actor with— I think silence is really scary when you don't know how it's being perceived, right? I'm trying, I'm being so vulnerable.
33:17
There's not that immediate laugh or that like, good job.
33:20
You really have to trust yourself and fall in love with, I know how I'm coming across and I know what I want it to be and I have confidence in this.
33:30
And that was a tool that we used with...
33:38
Part of what makes Nikki so scary is you never know what she's going to do.

9 MINS LATER

42:51
Thoughts
22:33
Uh-huh
22:34
... right? 'Cause I'm playing two people simultaneously.
22:36
We, of the same vein.
22:38
They're of the same person.
22:40
Um, but how do you make them different? And so whenever she has the scare moments, the part of my brain that I didn't want to know that that was happening, I would shut off.
22:51
That way the scare would be real.
22:52
But then my body would feel it, right? Like, I'd, I'd have, um, a physical reaction to it.
26:20
Right.
20:29
Yeah?
20:29
Um, I found that to be my college experience.
20:33
Um, the beauty of being on a TV show like that is there's different directors almost every single episode.
20:41
You'll ha- occasionally have, like, one or two come back to reprise kind of their role, if you will, and sometimes they're actors from another show trying their first opportunity at, at directing.
20:52
Um, but it was really fascinating because every director is s- extremely different, and especially when actors become directors, they direct differently than directors that are straight-out-the-gate directors.
21:05
Um, so it was really kind of constantly feeling like you're in a whirlwind, because you have to fight for continuity with a character that other people don't necessarily fully understand, 'cause they're coming into a fully formed world that you and your cast are building, that they're doing for one or two episodes.
21:21
And so as a young woman trying to figure out, "Where do I fit in that?" with trying to fight for the character that I feel like I'm building whilst also paying respect to the people that have wrote th- that particular character for that episode.

11:37
shockedAnd Indy, Ayala also wants to know how long did you prepare for the role, and can you talk more about how Curry prepared you?
11:47
Ooh, I think that there is...
11:49
Well, hello.
11:50
I think that's a beautiful question.
11:52
Um, I think that whenever it comes to preparation, there's beauty in not preparing, and then there's beauty in a lot of preparation.
12:00
So I think we kind of teetered that line of what to prepare, so we kind of prepared this level of communication with each other that way, because there's so much that is being asked of every single day, and we have such a short amount of time.
12:13
Um, I really wanted to make sure that we're getting what we need, and then having room to play.

7 MINS LATER

Grey DrakeMODERATOR
19:33
"Who do you think the villain in Obsession is?" Uh, what has it been like to see what Nikki means to so many people, especially women who love the film?
14:26
Do you kinda feel like seizing that moment right now and, like you're saying, taking those meetings?
14:30
I'm really trying to be specific with it 'cause I don't wanna lose the audience's trust in me that I feel like Nikki gave them and that I gave them...
14:40
Sorry, that I gave them through Nikki, and I wanna be very discerning with, like, my next couple of projects because I love cinema.
14:48
I've loved cinema since I was really young, and I love, like, 1998 to 2010 movies, like that vibe and that warmth, and I think that my generation is very nostalgic for those things, and I wanna bring that back.
15:05
I also love, like, my gothic side, if you would even call it that, of, um, movies like Dragula that, um, Dra- Dragula.
15:16
[laughs] Dragula.
15:17
With a C, not a G. That's Rob Zombie.
16:17
I'm just curious if, if you also felt that maybe when you first read the script versus after it came out.
19:34
... what it might look like inside her head even?
19:36
Yeah, we played with this idea of if she fully is seeing through her own eyes what's happening and doesn't feel the control or if it's kind of like teleportation where every time that she pops back in, it's from the moment that she popped in back before, which is why whenever she's in the house, she comes out and she's like, "Wait, where am I?" Like, so we played with both of that, and now that I've watched the film back, I think that she does both.
20:08
I think that her, in the very beginning whenever she doesn't understand what's going on, she's teleporting, and once that she realizes what's going on, Nikki's a fighter, and so her urge to fight the wish just gets bigger and bigger and bigger, and that's why she has the grief at the end because she's watched it happen.
20:25
She's felt it.
20:26
She has to deal with it.
20:27
It wasn't her fault.
20:28
Her life is completely changed, and she just lets it all go.
22:34
Or whatever is left of her, I guess.
