But through your work in NILC, when you look at many of the immigrant communities and what they're experiencing today, do you see any echoes of that history happening?

Absolutely.

So some of those foundational racist narratives in America today, they have their origins in how settlers viewed Native Americans.
34:39
So you've got this foundational racist philosophy of manifest destiny and the idea that American land is for white people of European descent.

And anybody else on that land is inherently a safety threat to manage and only valuable for their labor rights.

serving white america um so an extension of that for for made-up americans was you know they weren't entitled to birthright citizenship until well into the 20th century with the indian citizenship act and you see the overlap there with modern fights around who gets to be an american um And of course, you see the overlap between the dehumanizing messaging, the language of the Native American savage and the black and brown, quote, animals coming across the border.
35:27
I mean, we are now in a place of relitigating the entire 20th century and going back to our most fundamental fights over who is American.

You know, from your experience and what you're seeing right now, how are communities standing up for each other?
