Could you perhaps paint a picture for us of where things stand today and how we got here?
4:03
The security situation in the Sahel started 14 years ago.
4:07
It started as a result of three main dynamics.
4:10
The first one is that we have a decade-long instability in northern Mali with recurrent Tuareg rebellions.
4:20
The Tuaregs is a community that you find in Niger, in Mali, in southern Algeria, in southern Libya.
4:27
And they were unhappy with, particularly in Mali and Niger, actually.
4:31
So they were unhappy with the way that the Malian government has been, you know, governing their area.
6:54
So how are you looking at the relationship between the climate and the conflict risks today? And where do you think climate pressures, things like drought, extreme weather, the unpredictable rainfall, competition over land and water, fit alongside these really deeply rooted governance and security challenges the region's facing right now?
