Um, where do you think that things fell down, I guess, with LSD? Why it didn't end up working in the end?
3:11
Look, m- mainly because a lot of headstrong young guys who fancy themselves as Van Helsing and go in vampire hunting.
3:21
And, and I think, I think it's, there's a romance of, of wanting, being smart enough to smart, uh, to spot and then take down a traitor.
3:30
You know, there's a romance in that.
3:32
There was nothing romantic in what I was planning.
3:35
I was just planning basically a, a, a Roman shield circle, and basically, uh, a banishment of someone that wasn't us.
3:44
So m- it was, it was shabby.
5:52
How do we move forward from here?
4:17
Um, where do you think that things fell down, I guess, with LSD? Why it didn't end up working in the end?
4:26
Look, m- mainly because a lot of headstrong young guys who fancy themselves as Van Helsing and go vampire hunting.
4:36
And, and I think, I think it's, there's a romance of, of wanting...
4:41
Being smart enough to smart, uh, to spot and then take down a traitor.
4:46
You know, there's a romance in that.
4:47
There was nothing romantic in what I was planning.
4:50
I was just planning, basically, a, a, a Roman shield circle and basically, uh, a banishment of someone that wasn't us.
7:07
How do we move forward from here?
4:50
Like, this is perfect television for him."
4:52
Yeah, well, she's right because, uh, it's, as I said, it's just me, it's, it's just me doing what I do, which is to try and manipulate young people for my own benefit.
5:02
You know, I've done that every day of my life in the music industry.
5:06
And I thought how wonderful to be able to use that on a different platform.
5:10
But no, look, it was good.
5:11
I, I am, obviously I've been v- I, I, they've, they found me out.
5:15
My, my alliance crumbled, and I'm now on the outer.
7:34
And so while I'm a juicy, you know, gaylord at home wanting there to be something sassy happening out of this and some conflict, in actual fact, you were both almost in tears to see each other again.
1:34
So what about the traitors appealed to you?
1:38
Look, there's not many TV shows I can do anymore, which is kind of okay.
1:45
I've been ready for the last 10 years since I became unemployable to take the long road back into being a normal person.
1:53
But the weird thing is, Andrew Denton said this to me once, and it's absolutely true.
1:57
It's harder to get out of Australian television than it is to get into it.
2:01
So you keep getting snapped back into it.
2:04
I do get offered shows from time to time, but I just don't want to do them because these days they've either got to be interesting or pay well.

6 MINS LATER

8:18
How did hosting Australian Survivor change your approach to the show?
1:59
I, I want to know, how did you come up with that game plan?
2:04
Well, I decided well before I went on the show, having seen and enjoyed so many other Traitors series, I, I, I was aware ...
2:12
One thing I noticed is that the first three episodes of every Traitors series is like the first 15 minutes of Saving Private Ryan.
2:22
It's like, yeah, there are stray bullets, there's bodies dropping everywhere, and a lot of confusion and, and kinetic energy.
2:31
And, and I felt, I thought, if you can get through the first three or four episodes, patterns may start to emerge.
2:39
However, within the first f- three or four episodes, you're gonna lose eight people out of 20.
2:47
How do you protect yourself from being one of those eights, d- people who've demised? And I just decided that, s- crass as it was, if we could at least play the percentage game and mitigate against being banished, then you're taking away 50% of your chance of being killed.
6:57
And can you tell me what was going through your head when Alex kind of brought everything out into the open, and the people that didn't know about LSD were caught up to speed?
2:49
Did you suss out a better way to play it just from being told here's what it is and here's how it works or I've actually got a question from a couple of listeners Zach on Instagram said I want to know what other seasons Dicko had watched had he got any inspiration from them
3:06
I'd watch one of the normal punters ones with Alan Cummings, and I'd watched the two Australian ones before, and I'd watched, of course, the iconic UK celebrity one, which was just a brilliant piece of television, an amazing piece of casting.
3:28
And the one thing that I had actually realised, Matthew, was that the first...
3:34
Three episodes of any traitors, no matter where it is around the world, is like the first 15 minutes of Saving Private Ryan.
3:44
The body counts high, the kinetic energy is crazy and confusing, and the bullets are flying everywhere.
3:52
And I thought, how on earth do you play that? Because ultimately, you're likely to cop a stray bullet for just saying the wrong thing, regardless of whether you're a traitor or a faithful.
4:05
So I set about a strategy that was... crass and pragmatic and would have infuriated a lot of the purists.
8:21
Why do you think your plan, although it was a great plan, didn't work? Why did it just not pan out?
