So you, was this like, [laughs] "I gotta do this book," or was it you started doing the videos and all this stuff, and it all kind of culminated? How did this come into being?

I had a really unique experience in 2013, um, and I started writing f- from that experience that had happened.

I was in the hospital with an infection in the cerebral spinal fluid around my brain, and when I was, when they finally figured out what was wrong with me, which it was a, a really long, uh, journey to get there, I would have to go back and get lumbar punctures for them to put the medicine in the cerebral spinal fluid, 'cause that's the, sort of the only way in.

And I met a little girl in the hospital lobby who had, uh, just struck up a conversation about my T-shirt, and she was eight.

And she had said, "Oh, what are you here for?" And I said, "Oh, I have an infection in my brain." And she goes, "Oh, are they gonna fix you?" And I said, "Oh, yeah, they're doing a great job." And she goes, "Oh, thank God, otherwise you wouldn't go to heaven." And I was like, "W- what do you mean I wouldn't go to heaven?" [laughs] I didn't say that to her, but I was thinking, "How do you know?" And she, you know, like any good eight-year-old, just continues on with her story and she says, "Well, 'cause you'd be a zombie 'cause of your brain." I was like, "That logic checks out." [laughs] And without thinking, I just said, "Oh, what are you here for?" She says, "Oh, I'm getting pain medication." And instead of reading the room and looking at her mom's face, I was just like, "Oh, are they gonna fix you?" And she says, "No, I'm terminal."

... and a lot of the younger people don't know their gay history.

My ex did not know what Stonewall was, and he's a f- he, at that time, was a 40-year-old man, and I had to educate him.
