How did these roles continue to build your practice?

Well, AV was really significant for me because that was really where I learned to curate at scale.

It was a vast event kind of operating across four cities, Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland and Middlesbrough, working in over 40 venues ranging from museums to galleries, cinemas, public libraries, universities, the public realm as well, and working with some quite major names on new commissions.

So I directed two editions of the Biennale.

And the first one, we had new commissions by the likes of Ryoji Akita, Gina Sanecki, Karsten Nicolai.

We got Michael Nyman to come in and direct kind of a live action version of his Gattaca soundtrack with the Northern Sinfonia.

You know, we were doing work in the public realm there.
