How much do we know about this, what you might call vernacular Aramaic? So is the language that we read in the documents going to be pretty close to what was being spoken on the street or do we just not know?
10:00
We do actually know and the Aramaic written languages are almost all of them, with a few exceptions, modelled on actually spoken dialects.
10:09
I mean, probably not the language spoken by the man or the woman on the street, but by members of administrative circles, educated persons.
10:18
And these vernaculars were then standardised in the course of time, once every few hundred years.
10:25
we see influences of the spoken language of that period.
10:29
So for instance, when the Achaemenid Empire collapsed and new Aramaic written languages arose in both Syria and Palestine, Mesopotamia, we see the influences of Aramaic as it was spoken at that period.
10:42
So we see the ongoing developments of the language.

Can you tell us what the Dead Sea Scrolls are and then tell us how Aramaic features?
