And the shoulders that today's advocates stand upon are broad and strong.

The domestic worker movement was one of the first labor movements this country ever saw post-slavery, and it actually happened right down the street from here.

In 1881, there was a Atlanta washer woman strike.

Without those washer women, the city of Atlanta could not function, 'cause they were the ones cleaning the clothes, cleaning the homes, taking care of the babies, and they were seeing everyone else get pay increases, including some of the Black men, but they weren't.

2018 was the first time the communities in which I grew up in had a sense of hope.

And talk about reimagining what is possible.

The 2018 campaign was actually, it took a decade to really form because it actually didn't start with the Abrams for Governor campaign.

It started with organizers coming together and wanting to create something different and create coalition.

Others cited national factors like inflation.

What ended up happening was there was this thought, oh, Georgia flipped.

It now has enough money to be this purple or blue swing state.

In 1950, 1960, we saw the domestic worker movement come together under Dorothy Bolden.

And what folks don't know is the admin support behind the civil rights movement were the domestic workers.

King and the civil rights movement.

His vision for taking on capitalism and bringing poor folks together and uniting, I think we are actually on the precipice of seeing that become real.

And that's when we're going to see co-governing and this reimagining democracy.
