I think it's always a good idea to start with a basic definition, right? If you talk about certain issues, we first of all need to at least set out a certain definition.

Maybe we don't even agree on the definition, but at least that gets us sort of a ground to stand upon.

So for me, soft power and I'm almost quoting sort of Joseph Nye, who was sort of the father of the concept of soft power, who framed it, who coined the term in 1990, but he didn't really invent it.

It's a bit like mathematics, right? Whether you invent it or whether you discover it.

So I think Zonai was more discovered soft power and put it into words.

So I'd like to kind of to pivot to that after, but maybe we can start about first looking at this this diagnosis of was soft power, maybe a little too fit for purpose for the narrative we wanted to believe during that period.
