So thanks so much for joining us again, and, uh, let's get right into it.
2:39
That's amazing.
2:40
Well, uh, you know, when you had sent out the questions I re- uh, it actually took me some time to think about the values formation, right? Because, uh, uh, for me, the values formation piece, it's a, it's an ongoing project.
2:51
It's something that I feel like is, is constantly being challenged in ways I've never expected.
2:58
Um, you know, uh, my values as, um, a member of my community, a citizen of this country, of the world, um, my responsibilities in the profession that we're in, and most of all, as a parent.
3:12
Um, I, I'm sure you can, um, relate to that i- in particular.
3:16
But, um, I think, you know, as I continue to build out and think about the challenges to, uh, how my values were formed, I do feel like I had a fairly strong, um, starting point.

11:44
Mm.
11:30
the cynicism really felt
11:32
rooted.
11:33
Because not only was fraud and corruption happening in these places where we think, oh, these cultures are inherently corruption, but it was being aided and abetted by the systems themselves.
11:44
I won't name the country or the people involved, but I remember going out to do an investigation of this huge billions of dollars infrastructure project and did all the work, got all the approvals.
12:02
It was everything was pretty firm.
12:05
We get in country and we were asked by the country director to stop the investigation.
12:13
We weren't exactly booted out, but we were told to just stop.

Can you explain that to my audience and kind of the state of play right now on multilateralism and international cooperation from your perspective?
Uwe-Jean HeuserMODERATOR
18:41
Now, as the title insinuates, could this be a moment that unites us in this way?
18:49
I think it could be, but we also have to recognize that there are other forces that are pushing back against this tide.
18:55
I mean, we've seen this moment of energy crisis before, right? In 1973, we saw it.
19:00
And it was actually the crisis of 1973 that spurred on the development and research around these renewable technologies.
19:10
And then we had the war in Ukraine, which moved Europe in a very rapid transition.
19:18
And I think this is a moment where there is great opportunity.
19:23
And a lot of countries are recognizing that.

Hila, you have at some stage mentioned in your writings that often in developing countries, not the best technology gets financed, but rather old or not so useful technologies, correct?
