For the families, or when they ask us, what do we do, specifically with the rage issues, what I've been asked, like, how do I talk to them when the smallest thing will make them angry? When they're at that angry state, how do I talk to them to kind of bring them down? Is there any recommendations at that point to kind of help redirect them or anything?
23:30
Yeah, it's hard.
23:32
I think it's going to be very specific to the family, the child, the situation.
23:37
So I would say in general, as clinicians that work in behavioral health, we are you know, very in tune to wanting to do some verbal de-escalation, sometimes people just need space.
23:51
So if the parent and the child have had a conflict and the child is very upset, continuing to talk through what's happening might not be appropriate at that moment.
24:01
It might be give some space and then let's regroup and try to understand what's What was happening? Why did they feel that way? So that's one thing I would recommend is maybe in the heat of the moment, you take a break as a parent.
24:16
Take a moment, make sure your child's in a safe place and you give yourself a moment to recollect your emotions and thoughts as well.

Why don't we talk about the prevalence of it, because that changes a bit, and there's a sex difference, which we should talk about, and then we can dive into some of the core features.
5:57
Yeah, great.
5:58
So yes, there's a lot of news media coverage probably hitting recently about changes in prevalence of ADHD.
6:08
And that is what we're seeing in papers that are coming out in terms of what is the prevalence.
6:15
There are reports that span from 5% to close to 10% of the population.
6:20
And part of that change in representing people with a diagnosis or that meet criteria of ADHD is due to probably recognition of the disorder.
6:32
So more people are identifying it.

As someone doing research in it, as an expert in it, how do you respond to those people?
