Even though, like I said, it's beat to shit, the colors are so muted, there's probably we'll never see a better version of this than we are now, but it looks fucking fantastic.

I feel like sometimes with major big Hollywood movies where people are p- pumping in that much money, it almost to me just feels like a really obscene size measuring contest.

If you have vision, if you have enough technique and ideas and excitement, you don't need that much money.

I've seen shot on video movies that were made for 500 bucks that had some shots that blew me away, and I've seen films that cost $20 million that bored me to absolute tears.

[laughs] So you just need vision and some people that know what they're doing and are having fun doing it and are excited about trying new things.

Yeah, I've never seen The Hateful Eight, and I'm a...

The things I love about it, I fiercely love.

I love the f- the visual design of it.

Uh, I love the practical effects of it.

Honestly, I used to have that soundtrack on- Okay [laughs] ... actually I might, I might still have it on vinyl.

you were quite drunk to be fair we were talking about there's a scene on Terror Express the Ferdinando Baldi film where a guy has sex with a hooker and gets her to pretend to be his daughter so it's just a really sleazy film and we were talking about how that's now considered problematic to be in a film and it would never be in a film these days and yet porn about family members seems to be like the biggest thing stepdaughter so and so and all that kind of stuff

No, it's interesting, because the reason you see a lot of step-parent, like, family stuff is because nowadays they won't.

It's not...

Because in 1980, 81, you had Taboo with Kay Parker, where the plot is legit, like, it's her...

I mean, he's an adult, but that's, you know, the story is, like, she has sex with her adult son, which is nasty.

But I love Kay Parker.

She's a great actress.

Well, my number three, and this is one where I almost didn't pick it because it felt really obvious.

But then I did that whole thing where it's like, really, really? Is it? Is it? And then I had a crying jag.

but yeah no that's the thing that can i'm trying to like segue from the from the the dan the dan muscle muscle shirt uh explosion over here that's going on in bradley's heart and mind but uh but no i mean yeah it's that it is that absolutely like uncompromising spirit and and especially like because it's a thing like you when you see a Ken Russell movie, you immediately know it's Ken's.

Like he's got that auteur thumbprint down cold, like just immediately, there's no question about it.

And to have that and retain it, you know, through having various like the, you know, the slings and arrows of being a filmmaker and being an artist in a world that tends to kind of celebrate mediocrity, more than it does anybody actually trying to do something that's got a lot of heart and vision to it um it takes guts it takes absolute guts like this is this film is and I the thing is I don't know how you guys feel about this I'm I feel like I'm if we finally get this out legally uncensored on physical media finally in this country.

Amen, please give it to me.

I just I part of me kind of like, I don't know, it's important thing that it gets out there and people are going to see it.

But I kind of like, feel kind of weirdly icky in a way about anybody approaching this movie like, you know, oh, yeah, I'm gonna watch something messed up.

uh you know putting his name on the kennedy center you know stuff like that i'm not gonna get into that's no it that's not politics that's reality

Mary Katz- Now it and I also did a recently posted a reprint of an article about a journalist named dewey webb and dewey webb was the guy out of Arizona.

Mary Katz- Who was just one of the coolest cats he's did a lot of like culture writing, but his film writing I discovered as a teenager thanks to the early days of the the Internet and.

his writing like he was sharp he was funny really knew his stuff and i just wanted to do like a great tribute because i i it's one of those things as i got older i'm like man dewey really was and forever is like a huge inspiration to me more than maybe almost any i think any other film writer oddly enough and i mean there are film writers i love of course but dewey i mean i learned about everything from angela boy being in the glitter goddess of sunset strip which is a film nobody talks about But Dewey wrote about that.

He wrote about water power.

He wrote about like this, like something called Twonky about a sentient TV from like, this is from like the fifties.

So yeah, just an amazing, amazing guy.
