Beyond Screen-Time Bans: Student Safety in the Age of AI
18:24

3:03Harrison ParkerGUEST
Really excited to talk about digital safety as probably everyone listening in knows.
H
3:08Harrison ParkerGUEST
This is a very hot topic right now around children's AI usage as well as screen time, etc.
H

It's been something that obviously our company has been focused on for over a decade now.

Can you say a little bit more just in terms of some of the things that maybe the average person is not even factoring, they're not even considering this could potentially be a concern that Harrison, you're saying like our offerings, our programs are going to make people more aware of things that just have not necessarily been on their radar.

35:00And, and you're so right because it, it was more of a, an equity, how do we get this into the hands of people, and now it's in the hands, and perhaps certain layers of things were not considered before because in hindsight, you know, it's a wonderful thing, but actually were we even aware that, that these things might have been possible, um, and that digital wellbeing may well have been a concern at all? It's a, a new thing altogether, isn't it? Uh, tell us a little bit more about it as a total kind of, uh, application for people to be able to use to be able to support people.
H

There, there's a number of different products or features that we offer, and again, it ranges from, from school to home in terms of the end user that's using that product.
H
35:43Harrison ParkerGUEST
But our core offering to education really started out as a content filter.
H
35:48Harrison ParkerGUEST
So early, early on in, in the early 2000s when the internet was first hitting schools, it was really about keeping kids off of harmful or inappropriate content. So that, that's our core, uh, is making sure that kids are off, off those certain sites that are, you know, very apparent to everyone that it's, it's not appropriate to, to be on at school.
H
36:09Harrison ParkerGUEST
And then that, that evolved from there to a classroom management tool where teachers can focus attention just on the sites that they want.
H
36:17Harrison ParkerGUEST
So I alluded to this earlier, but literally as a teacher you could say, "Hey, you're only allowed to go to these five websites for the next 50 minutes during my class." So you can ensure that they're not getting distracted.

42:40So how, how easy is it? How, how is the simplicity of that, and has that been something that you've worked on as a company?
