And it broke the whole network in April, right? Like in 2023, I want to say.
7:45
Yeah.
7:45
[laughs] Yeah.
7:47
That was not quite ex- you know, that wasn't expected.
7:50
I, I thought I was gonna launch it and, you know, it was just gonna flop, like no one was gonna care.
7:54
Uh, you know, I've launched a ton of things in the past, and normally they, they don't amount to much.
7:58
And, and so I didn't have like super crazy high expectations, but like my, my motivation for building it was, uh, you know, I'd come to really buy into like that, that Bitcoin vision of, you know, non-fiat currencies eventually superseding the fiat currencies.

But do you wanna talk a little bit about just like why you chose Solana for this? Because it seems like you could have done like a Bitcoin L2 or, or something along those lines, but like why specifically Solana?

But it might be great to go back to some of those early days and talk through with you kind of the some of the inspiration for or and like what what kicked off this idea to do like proof of work on top of like a proof of stake network because I think that's pretty like it's interesting and it kind of it sparked like a whole wave of people were trying to do proof of work on all of the chains at that time and it it kind of caused a lot of issues for lots of different networks
2:07
Yeah, I think the initial V1 was kind of the starting gun for the whole IVRL movement on Solana.
2:16
Because, yeah, the V1 system had, I guess you could call it like a little bug that sort of incentivized miners to spam the chain as much as possible.
2:29
But yeah, I mean, the original sort of origin story for Ore and Motivation was I was kind of between work at the time and sort of figuring out what to focus my time on.
2:41
And I had been in crypto for a few years at that point and started to buy into the idea of this Bitcoin and non-fiat currency, non-fiat store value.
2:54
But I was a little bit disillusioned with the state of the network because it was just pretty clear to me no one was using the actual Bitcoin network.
3:04
99% of the transactions were being processed and settled on Binance and Coinbase and Robinhood and these financial institutions that it seemed like the blockchain was built to replace.

But maybe talk about, it'd be great if you could talk about how the vision sort of evolved based on based on where things went with the protocol because obviously i think there's there were a few like immediate lessons in trying to just sort of like redo bitcoin so to speak like the the supply curve i think you know movements in the price and people like getting into the mining itself and the the amount of supply coming up um coming onto the market like i think there was a realization that like maybe the exact same supply curve wouldn't necessarily work in the exact same way and maybe the exact same mechanics of the mining itself may not work in the same way so i'm curious how you kind of thought through some of things some of these things and maybe what some like early changes or ideas were um to address that and maybe kind of down the road now like where you've come to in terms of like what's like a better solution
