10:04
And actually, some people that contacted you, because you put out an ad and said, who's got some unfinished jobs? What were you approached with that maybe you didn't go with?
10:12
This one came in late.
10:13
There was actually someone that said, you can be my doula if you want.
10:18
And I went, yeah, yeah.
10:21
Well, unfortunately, we've finished our working season, but I've probably still got some rubber gloves left over from when we did some tiling.
10:30
They were wide and varied.
10:32
And look, the premise of the show is, yes, to force myself to actually learn some useful skills.
11:59
I mean,
10:37
No one had beaten it.
10:38
Well, we'd played it a few times, and that's what started to annoy us because it was pretty near the radio station, so we were often at that pub.
10:44
And it was of the genre, people will remember these two, like there were these games where you'd pay five bucks or two bucks, like Spot the Difference was one of them that was often at a bar.
10:55
And there was kind of these like touchscreen skill games basically at the bar.
11:00
You don't see them around too much anymore, but they did have a heyday kind of about 15 years ago.
11:05
And so we went, look, you've got, I think you have 30 seconds to answer on Millionaire.
11:10
It might even be a minute.
12:16
I
15:31
And then it might
15:32
come across as kind of disrespectful.
15:33
I mean, if I had mastered it, they would have to be impressed.
15:37
I think they're safe.
15:38
I think they're safe in this.
15:39
Look, I did actually kind of wonder the same thing.
15:41
I was like, this is certainly not me going, oh, my God.

6 MINS LATER

21:25
I mean, what keeps you interested? Well,
45:46
Before we get to your show, if you don't mind, can we get some goss on the wedding? Did anything surprising happen?
45:52
Oh, I don't know if it was deliberate or not, but the way, you know, Beck looks incredible.
45:58
The way the sun was coming in through the window, it lit Beck's head up like she was a saint.
46:03
It was like a religious moment.
46:04
Wow.
46:05
If we were doing this in the 1600s, she might have been canonised.
46:09
Like, it was quite amazing.
47:04
What kind of jobs?
Wippa
WippaHOST
12:00
And do
12:00
you know what, Kate? Spot on, because I would have loved to have Whip on the show.
12:03
I would have been like, oh, great.
12:04
You know, a lot of the people on the show are just people that I love hanging out with.
12:07
So, you know, as a best mate, you would qualify on that front.
12:10
But then I just thought, oh, God.
12:12
The problem with Whip is whether he's got the skills or not, he thinks he has the skills.
FitzyHOST
13:18
You were there.
1:34
Before we get to your show, if you don't mind, can we get some goss on the wedding? Did anything surprising happen?
1:40
Oh, I don't know if it was deliberate or not, but the way, you know, Beck looks incredible.
1:46
The way the sun shines.
1:47
was coming in through the window, it lit Bec's head up like she was a saint.
1:51
It was like a religious moment.
1:52
Wow.
1:52
If we were doing this in the 1600s, she might have been canonised.
2:52
What kind of jobs?
15:48
What does it look like for you now? So like four years down the track, is that still where your priorities lie?
15:52
I would say so, yes.
15:53
That probably would have been the last year before my daughter went to school as well.
15:56
So I had a real keen sense of like when Rue was her last year before school and because, you know, she's our youngest and you just due to medical procedures, you know, she's definitely going to be the last child you have.
16:08
It's that thing of being like, well, I want to definitely soak this up.
16:11
And so I'm super glad I did.
16:12
Then school does change things a little bit.

7 MINS LATER

22:52
Oh my God,
32:37
This is such a great idea for a show, but can you describe it for us?
32:41
In a nutshell, I mean, it is about me getting to this stage in my life going, I don't really have any skills apart from talking, and that's not really a skill.
32:51
So I was like, what's a good way to force myself to have to learn something in life? And so we set up a business, real people, this real jobs, a couple of hundred to a couple of thousand dollars.
33:04
And then every episode, it's me and two employees, two workers.
33:08
Mel very kindly joined the team for one of the episodes.
33:11
We open an envelope, whatever the job is.
33:13
You know, if it's like, oh, we need, you know, someone to, like, fabricate a metal cage or whatever, we just have to call the client and go, we'll take it.
36:24
Yeah,
18:20
Yeah.
18:20
Yeah.To me, it's pretty similar back when you used to get on the floor and play at 4:00 in the morning, the 10th game- [laughs]
18:29
Yeah
18:29
... of, um, of, you know, of what- Countless games ... whatever it was, you know, shops- Yeah ... with y- kids.
18:36
It...
18:37
You would...
18:37
All you'd wanna do is reach for your phone, or all I'd wanna do, sorry, is reach my phone or, or think, "Okay-" I think you can say we there.

54 MINS LATER

73:08
Yeah
40:37
Yeah.
40:38
I...
40:40
I mean, I, I wanna say something here [laughs] that just is...
40:43
I don't, I'm just not qualified to make a wild hypothesis.
40:46
But I'm kind of curious to, I'd love to get your take on it.
40:50
So just thinking about kids with the, you know, the, the, the dopamine squirts and the uneven squirting of dopamine that's going on for an ADHD kid, their, their mind's going where their mind's going.
41:02
As you said, they don't get to choose their attention.

10 MINS LATER

51:33
Yeah
Wippa
WippaHOST
15:57
You can ask him if you want.
15:58
Oh, yes.
15:59
This was on the Hamish and Andy podcast a few weeks ago.
16:03
I think it was like it was in the context of everyone's got those moments in their family that kind of makes history.
16:09
Do you know what I mean? I feel like unfortunately the other week one of those might have happened where I awoke at about 5 a.m., And I did...
16:18
Look, it wasn't a small fart, I admit.
16:20
That's okay.
Wippa
WippaHOST
19:03
Are you a supporter, I think I've run this past you before, of Kate's Tuscan Treats, a show where Tommy and I organise different cooking experiences in Italy, where Kate comes over and she just makes pasties and pastas and...
WippaHOST
0:54
Oh,
0:54
yes.
0:55
This was on the Hamish and Andy podcast a few weeks ago.
0:59
I think it was like it was in the context of everyone's got those moments in their family that kind of makes history.
1:05
Do you know what I mean? I feel like unfortunately the other week one of those might have happened where I awoke at about 5 a.m., And I did...
1:14
Look, it wasn't a small fart, I admit.
1:16
That's okay.
WippaHOST
3:05
None of
14:59
They're very young, but I can see that happening.
15:02
What's the rule you've got? I mean, everyone kind of has their own gauge.
15:06
It is a question.
15:06
It's a bridge you cross.
15:07
You have to cross eventually.
15:08
It's like everything with parenting.
15:10
You don't really know what's coming.
BellaAUDIENCE
16:55
Because he's
19:35
Not be rude.
19:35
And do you know what? For extra points, Andy and I play a game called not lying, um, which is y- you say something that makes it sound like, you know, that, like, you can't do something, but it's...
19:46
Like, you know, so for example, like, let's say me and, like, me and Po- if we're, I don't know, playing golf next week, and someone's like, "Oh, hey, um, you know, would love to organize a Zoom." Um-
21:04
[laughs]
21:05
He was our radio producer for a very long time.
21:07
So he was the master of no's.
21:08
Like, he was the gatekeeper, and our desk would be next to each other.
21:11
And I remember, like, early days, like, someone would offer a guest or something for the show, and he'd call, always call the publicist, like, always be really polite and, like, super professional, and, and I'd...
10:40
And there's nothing unique either.
10:41
Yeah.
10:41
You're not curious anymore.
10:42
You're just trying to do the best job fitting in.
10:45
And, and so for, for Rando and I together, and then, and then even separately, the, the one thing we've always prided ourselves on is going, there's no guarantees in any of this.
10:54
There was never a guarantee when we started.
10:56
Like it just, you just don't have any guarantees.
15:29
To watch the Olympics or to compete in the Olympics?
26:39
Never
26:39
... took me up on the offer.
26:40
One time we were traveling, we were in Perth, and this was a couple years ago.
26:44
And we get to the hotel, and it's kinda, like, late at night, and we're like, "All right, you know, we're just gonna wind down." And at first they were like, you know, "Can we watch Netflix?" Or, like, something, you know, a cartoon or something.
26:55
And then the TV didn't have-

13 MINS LATER

39:42
Oh.
39:42
And 'cause that, that...
39:43
Sorry, the reason it made me think of it, I was like trying to kinda, like, stifle my laughter as I heard this story for the first time.
11:10
like, what am I putting out that someone's giving me this? I'm looking around, I'm like,
11:14
it's a – you know, because it's a big company, there's a lot of HR talks and there's like – The TV industry now is like pretty regulated about, you know, it's not the 80s, guys.
11:24
Like it's all very – everyone has to abide by the rules.
11:27
I'm like I'd love that someone's had a crack at this.
11:30
What were some of the recipes? I might make one.
11:33
It was the greatest gift.
11:34
I pissed myself.

25 MINS LATER

36:11
at the supermarket, don't you? Yeah.
