I think it's a good and exciting comparison, but I wouldn't say it is an exact match, let's say.

But the difference actually stands in the official historiographies of how they treat Byzantine heritage.

So in the beginning of the modern Greek state, it was the ancient Greek heritage, the golden ages of the Athenian democracy, what they choose as the ancestors, the glorious past of the nation.
