Well, in the time that you've been at Sanders Brown, are you seeing now that things are beginning to change, at least through the course of diagnosis, the course of treatment in Alzheimer's? And are you really working on now slowing the disease, diagnosing it when it's in its early stages? Tell us a little bit about the progression of what you do.
4:37
Yeah, I think this is incredible.
4:39
We often draw parallels to the field of cancer.
4:41
Where was cancer in the 1970s? You know, you went into your doctor, you said, I'm not feeling good.
4:46
They felt a lump in your belly or whatever.
4:50
And that prompted the diagnostic evaluation frequently too late to do anything.
4:55
And and we had not much that we could do.
7:17
How do you decide when to do that on the patient? And how do you decide once you get that information, do you progress to treatment or how do you make those decisions?
1:55
First, Greg, can you give us an overview of the current guidance on diagnosing Alzheimer's disease?
2:02
Sure, Sharon, I would love to.
2:04
We do this all the time, but actually thinking about these seven steps, uh, which really are the current guidelines when incorporating biomarkers, uh, and, uh, ultimately coming up with a diagnosis.
2:18
So, uh, the first thing when a patient comes in, core one, step one is to establish shared goals for the diagnostic process.
2:27
Really, really important because of course, we're going to tailor this to what is best for the patient and taking their opinions into account.
2:36
And then of course, as with all medical encounters, we're going to take a history.
2:41
Really important, uh, uh, at step three to do a multi-domain systems review.

What would you tell her and her family? Greg, do you want to take that?
