Um, just general thoughts and impressions from what we saw against Fresno State and kinda what that means [chuckles] looking at, looking into Utah State and all the, everything that's gone on this week obviously leading up to it.

Greg WoodsGUEST
Yeah, I mean, I would love to have a, a longer-term perspective on like, you know, the last time they looked the way they do, and this predates, you know, I mean, you were probably like four or five years old the last time they looked like this.

Greg WoodsGUEST
So it's been a long time, I guess, is the point, and I don't even have the best perspective on, you know, how long it's been since they were looking like this.

Greg WoodsGUEST
But, um, but yeah, just, I mean, I don't know, whatever word you wanna use to describe the way their offense looked in that game, I mean, the word I kept coming back to, come back, coming back to in my stuff was like ghastly.

Greg WoodsGUEST
I, you thought about like a bor- like there's just so many ways to describe the way they looked, and it was like, you know, I mean, you credit them for getting the field goal they figured out so that Jack Stevens gets them on the board.

some of these things seem, again not being a coach not, you know, ever playing quarterback at the FBS level, some of these things seem like things like, okay like we can watch the tape and figure these out.

i have a little bit of a two-part question here uh going back to the game on sunday uh what's one thing that maybe surprised you in a good way about washington state and how they played and then what what is one thing that maybe surprised you in a bad way about how they played

Greg WoodsGUEST
surprised me in a good way i mean I'm going to keep harping on their defense because the thing is like we, everybody that kind of watched them throughout fall camp and saw their team kind of come together, figured that their defense would be pretty good.

Greg WoodsGUEST
Like if there was going to be a strength of their team, it was going to be their defense, but they were even better than advertised, which is saying a lot for a team that, or for a defense that already looked awesome.

Greg WoodsGUEST
So I just think that like the way they were able to push back some of these five-star really talented offensive linemen at Washington and says a lot about them because they have a lot of new pieces up front between uh jari layup epitelli and paul hudson and belaine miller and the two dns that i mentioned they just have so many new pieces in the first you know first level of their defense set even for as good as they looked it was like okay like now you have to play your real game and you know in front of 70 000 people you know away from home like how does that how is it all going to kind of come together in a game setting So I think for that to actually come together even better than even I was expecting, I think was pleasantly surprising for their sake.

Greg WoodsGUEST
And then, surprised in a bad way, I think some of the Cougs' offensive line, I think...

Greg WoodsGUEST
I wasn't, like, totally shocked because that's a tough, like I said, tough environment.

Mason VothHOST
So what do you make of what he is going to be for Washington State throughout this season and how much of how he and the offense performed on Sunday against Washington will be what they look like come this game against K-State?

Out of the Washington State O-line look against Washington, because the trenches, I think, is going to be a big phase of this game for K-State.

Greg WoodsGUEST
Yeah, I mean, I think it's like such a unique experience because WSU will not be playing the games, the likes of Washington and K-State the rest of their season.

Greg WoodsGUEST
So it's like, can we really judge them in earnest after a game where you're going up one of the, what projects to be one of the best defensive lines in the Big Ten, at least not in all college football.

Greg WoodsGUEST
I mean, the big number that stands out is they got 38 combined rushing yards from the three top running backs who are projected to be an awesome trio, especially with the new head coach being Kirby Moore, who was the OC in Missouri, where he led a bunch of different awesome running back groups in his three years there.

Greg WoodsGUEST
So definitely a little bit of an inauspicious start for their offensive line, which kind of translates to their three running backs not really being able to get going.

Mitch FortnerHOST
What is this K-State offensive line about to face with this Washington State defense that I thought for a while did pretty good against Washington?

they put the g- ball on the ground twice anyway, so what would it have really changed?

Greg WoodsGUEST
It's such a fine line and between, um, the coaches thinking like How much w-, you know, what are the risks or what risks are we willing to take and what does that say about... 'Cause they, I, I think that, like, the thing you have to remember is that, like, the coaches are not thinking about these, these game plans the same way that, like, people like you and I are.

Greg WoodsGUEST
Like, I, like we're more realistic about, like, okay, like, they're not probably gonna be able to move bodies up front but th- that, their entire job is to make that happen [laughs] you know what I mean? Like, they're paid oodles of money to, like, find the ways to make that happen.

Greg WoodsGUEST
So, like, I think there is, like, part of their, their thinking that's like, "Okay, like, we should be able to do this because that's our expectation and we have the guys," whatever.

Greg WoodsGUEST
After, after a while you have to realize that that's, like, not really the case and then you have to let that kind of inform the adjustments you make, um, because I thought when they got out of the pocket, like you said, their offense looked much better.

Greg WoodsGUEST
Um, not only because I think Penick is more mobile anyway but, like, this sounds kinda reductive and I don't mean this as, like, a, a derogatory but, like, he's not a very big, uh, big quarterback.
