21:57
Mm.
21:57
Uh, people were dropping me notes about this, but they did set two records on John Deere tractors.
22:02
Uh, now one, Clinton, was a, was a 4430, which of course Deere made from '73 to '77, an iconic model.
22:11
Uh, you know, bazillion of them sold back in the, you know, that period in the '70s was, was really go time.
22:17
And, uh, so imagine how many I've seen sold at auction for 37 years I've been tracking them, and they had a beautiful '77 model.
22:25
I think 3,637 hours on it, quad range.
22:28
Went for 45,500 bucks.

9 MINS LATER

31:47
Yeah.
11:14
What do you got?
11:17
Well, the pick of the week quite often of late here has been a tractor I kind of grew up around, the 4440.
11:24
And that was a sale Friday out in western Iowa we need to focus on.
11:28
It was a sale by my good friends at Zomer Company Realty and Auction.
11:33
It was a retirement sale.
11:34
I think it was Dennis and Myrna Johnson, I believe, out of Akron, Iowa.
11:38
And they had a one-owner 79 model 4440 quad range, 3,651 original hours on it.

7 MINS LATER

18:21
How was it? What was the vibe down there in Louisville?
25:41
But is there anything different that you're thinking about considering or trying going into this fall and next year?
25:49
Well, one thing I've been working on during the last couple weeks is digging out one of our irrigation ponds that's by my house, making it deeper.
25:58
It's only the second year I've used it to irrigate out of, and so I'm excited to get that project kind of to its next phase.
26:08
I heard you guys talking about tile.
26:10
Irrigation is our tile here.
26:12
It's so valuable, and And just to be able to improve that field a little bit by deepening the pond and having some more access to more water is a good deal for us that I'm really looking forward to.
28:43
So since you do a lot of social media, a lot of media stuff, going to different farm shows, where are you headed? Do you have a full schedule coming up here this winter?
28:52
We have a few events coming up here in January, but for the most part, this will be the most clear our schedule has been since our very first video went viral in 2012, which some of that is just a natural decline of things.
12:45
Let's start with the pick of the week.
12:47
Yeah, pick of the week.
12:48
You know, a lot of weeks here, Chip, we talk about some pre-deaf, lower-hour stuff that, of course, really tracks big prices.
12:54
But strong pricing on very late model equipment I want to highlight from the past few days.
12:59
So on Friday, our friends at Big Iron had a John Deere dealer auction with some equipment from around the Midwest.
13:05
And they had, I believe it's the first John Deere 9RX 710 that sold in the U.S.
13:09
It was a 25 model, 402 hours on it with about a year left of warranty warranty.
14:31
What have you got there?
18:02
What is that looking like in terms of, you know, even demand and availability? Yeah.
18:07
Yeah, so Clinton, before we hop down here, I just mentioned, I just ran some numbers, really, really eye-opening.
18:13
So I don't like to talk in generalities.
18:17
If I'm talking to the farm audience, I'd like to back it up with our data.
18:22
I always have.
18:22
That's why I started doing this 37 years ago.
18:25
So there's different types of data.
22:08
Greg, as you look at this, do you consider this a structural change that this is kind of a new norm going forward? Or do you see anything kind of pulling back into what you saw more traditionally in terms of market setup? Or is it this consolidation situation that we've seen and that just changes the game?
11:13
What do you got for the pick of the week?
11:15
Pick of the week, about an almost 30-year-old combine really had folks talking chip.
11:19
It was Saturday, a farm auction for Ryman Hill Farms Dispersal in Nicopic.
11:25
I think that's how they pronounce it, Nicopic, Pennsylvania, by a sale by Fraley Auction Company.
11:30
Super, super sharp stuff on this auction, folks.
11:33
But the combine was a John Deere 9510 Sidehill.
11:37
Now, the 10-series combine, I think it was only made two years, like 98 and 99.
14:43
Dress it up a little bit.
22:35
Mm.
22:35
Uh, versus new.
22:37
Just, s- you know, it's, it's the same old yarn I keep talking about, but the rising price of new to the low- the price jumps we've seen have taken it to such a point that, uh, you know, any added pressure these days, uh, cost-wise, input-wise on farmers, again, it, it tends to push them to the used market.
23:00
And, uh, what's unusual this time that I, I really never seen before, Clinton, is the length of time, uh, this has stretched out.
23:13
Uh, now-
25:14
...
25:14
the government, the president wants, trying to kind of smash or bully the Fed into lowering rates, which w- you know, we understand why they wanna do that.
10:48
Get us started with your pick of the week.
10:50
Yeah, I can't actually pick one this week, Chip, because there's honestly three or four or five.
10:56
But the market has kind of shaken loose from its moorings, and it's gone up another couple notches across the board.
11:04
So probably let's start off talking about a sale last Thursday.
11:08
Folks at Kraft Auction Service had their annual, it was day one of their annual two-day Labor Day sale in Walkerton, Indiana.
11:16
And I got a text from Jonathan Kraft last Thursday evening.
11:20
He's like, Pete, look at this.

6 MINS LATER

17:01
it's become an inventory issue out there in the, in the used market again, hasn't it?
1:04
And like you said, it's been a new turn it up a notch here a little bit on what you see happening in the auction space.
1:14
Yeah, definitely, Casey.
1:15
The auction market has taken off.
1:17
I think people on social media are following along as I try to report on it.
1:22
You know, it's the same as when it goes down.
1:24
It is what it is.
1:26
And it's definitely ticked up.

5 MINS LATER

6:51
I'm talking about reasonable expectations for supply and demand to where everything is elastic like it should be.
11:34
We've got the weekly report from Greg Peterson right now.
11:38
Hey folks, Machinery Pete here.
11:40
Sorry I can't be with you live.
11:41
My pick of the week this week, no surprise, is the tractor everyone is buzzing about.
11:48
Sold Saturday in Adair, Illinois by our good friend Kyle Kelso.
11:53
Kyle Kelso Auctioneer there, great company.
11:55
had their uh i think at their pre-harvest consignment sale and on the sale was a tractor folks have been talking about uh for a long time it was a john deere 4440 1980 model 1071 hours on it quad range now 1071 hours everyone was asking you know what's the deal on that and what i could determine from the uh build up to the sale was this was one of those rare uh cases that just does happen, just a barn find deal off a local estate, literally I think had been shedded since the early 90s.
0:39
So what are you seeing out there right now?
0:42
Well, continuation going back to the middle of June, Casey.
0:44
Uh, good condition equipment, regardless of age.
0:48
It can be two years old, it can be obviously pre-DEF stuff, but, uh, it's trending up.
0:53
I mean, it just is.
0:55
You know, a couple of examples.
0:56
I know just Saturday, so two days ago, a nice farm estate auction in Iowa, Portsmouth, Iowa, which I believe is western, but I'm not positive.

8 MINS LATER

8:43
But it's gonna be, it's gonna be more secure and a lot better than I think we saw in 20- 25, '26.
26:14
What do you got for the pick of the week?
26:16
Oh, pick of the week.
26:18
We are going to sale Saturday in Portsmouth, Iowa by Osborne Auction.
26:22
I believe it was a Farm Estate auction for Scott Gow.
26:26
Super line of equipment on the sale chip.
26:29
So kind of pick of the week is a number of these items.
26:31
Start off with a 92 John Deere 4455 two-wheel drive, 4,405 hours.
28:24
I think that was my 38th.
0:39
Talk about that one a little bit.
0:39
Yeah.
0:40
This is the one that really had people buzzing yesterday and today when we threw it on our social media, but it was a sale at Fair Grove, Michigan, Saturday.
0:48
Uh, it was an estate sale for Wayne Montie.
0:51
And again, no internet bidding, but, uh, they had a John Deere 4088 40 with 884 original hours on it.
0:59
Now, every time you see one like this, of course, very natural, a lot of people are very skeptical, to say the least, on the hours.
1:07
But, uh, you know, again, every so often you run across things that just, that just are.

9 MINS LATER

10:31
Yeah
16:41
Um, let's go to the auction that you were at up in Minnesota.
16:45
Yeah, up the road in Hastings, just south of Cottage Grove, uh, Minnesota.
16:49
My auctioneer friend Todd Houghton pinged me about this last week.
16:52
He's like, "Pete, we got some low-houred stuff on this one." It was the Gene Smallidge Farm Retirement Auction.
16:58
Had so much fun.
16:59
I posted a YouTube video yesterday.
17:01
Uh, 1999 Case IH MX200, 1,715 hours.
19:37
What do you got out in, uh, Indiana?
15:45
You know what I mean? So if you start looking at, hey, we're going to go out and sell these one-year-old machines to these bigger guys and stuff coming through, I think what we see happening right now is setting the table for a really healthy used equipment space two, three years down the road.
16:03
Wouldn't agree more, Casey.
16:04
You're on it.
16:06
In fact, you know, doing what I do, I look for data confirmation for trends up or down, but also the people component.
16:16
So, for example, end of last week, I was in western Kentucky for three days.
16:21
I was down to speak at an event called the Wave Conference.
16:24
Wave Ag Day.

Machinery Pete here.
10:52
Sorry I can't be live with you with Chip on the radio today.
10:56
I was traveling end of last week and back on the road again this week, but I wanted to give a report.
11:02
Uh, start off with our Pete's Pick of the Week.
11:04
Actually, a sale coming up Thursday I wanna highlight, so Thursday, August 6th, 10:00 AM Eastern Time.

12 MINS LATER

23:26
We're down over five bucks below the $80 mark at 79.52.
1:43
And,
1:43
by the way, that average is 347.3, just about 347.4.
1:50
But a big part of that is how bad the last two years were.
1:55
So, yes, it's up 12.3%, but, I mean, it took a whack, a huge drop in 24, the same drop we saw just over a decade ago.
2:04
And that big downturn.
2:07
So the supply of good used is tightening.
2:10
It just is.

6 MINS LATER

7:52
are going to put those machines i think in a good position to be ready to move if we continue down the same path we're going as you look at at where commodity prices are headed right now
10:11
What do you got?
10:12
We got a combine, a pre-deaf combine sold Saturday over in Lakefield, Minnesota, southwest part of the state.
10:18
It was on the Lockstep Farms auction in Lakefield, Minnesota by Zomer Company Auction and Realty.
10:26
Mark, Blake, Ryan, and Bryce and the team over there are a really good auction company.
10:30
Sell a lot of land and machinery.
10:32
And they had a John Deere 9670 STS.
10:35
2,546 engine hours on a chip, one for $99,250, no head, just the box.
13:26
Greg, what do you got here?
5:03
Talk about what we saw there.
5:05
Yeah, Ritchie, of course, has been very busy.
5:07
They just purchased a beginner not too long ago, so lots going on.
5:10
I also recently purchased Blackman Auctions, so lots happening with our friends there with Ritchie Brothers.
5:15
But last Thursday, they had a sale in southwest Saskatchewan.
5:18
Now, I don't mean to offend our friends up there.
5:23
Me trying to pronounce the name of this town, I'm not even going to try, Casey.

14 MINS LATER

19:51
To me, as you watch what will play out, that can have a significant play on machine values and what does that look like in the middle.
11:44
Let's get right to it with your pick of the week.
11:47
Yeah, pick of the week.
11:48
Last Tuesday, we were in Mount Pulaski, Illinois, Chip.
11:50
We were there actually filming for our TV show, Mike Mosky Auction Service.
11:56
It was a retirement sale for Kevin and Kathy Wilhelm.
11:59
Great folks.
12:00
A lot of people know Kevin.

6 MINS LATER

18:26
What are you watching this week?
6:56
That's just a cool concept, right? You get your tractor and your refrigerator in the same place.
7:01
I asked if they had any Coors Light in there.
7:03
They didn't at the time.
7:06
We were working filming.
7:08
But, no, you're right.
7:10
Those old fridges and freezers tell a story.
7:12
And it was fun to watch people just congregate.

7 MINS LATER

I can't be with you live on the air with Chip today, but I'm actually traveling, making my way out to Illinois and Indiana this week to cover some auctions and do some auction previews.
9:24
Actually, tomorrow, if you're in the Mount Pulaski area, come out and join us.
9:28
We'll be filming the sale by my friend Mike Mosky with Mosky Auction.
9:34
And real estate is having the Kevin and Kathy Wilhelm closing out auction, a farm sale in Mount Pulaski tomorrow.
9:41
I think it kicks off at 10 o'clock central.
9:45
You maybe caught the auction preview I did a while back with Kevin and Kathy Wilhelm.
5:54
Some doors are starting to open towards some people being excited about maybe looking at some of that stuff.
6:00
Yeah, no question.
6:01
I think the supply issue, again, that's maybe the piece people don't see.
6:05
You and I are staring at it every day looking at the back-end data at machinerypeat.com. We can see overall supply levels at the model level or the sector like combines or 200-horse tractors, whatever.
6:19
The supply has really tightened over the last 18 to 24 months.
6:23
And again, since mid-June, the prices have been strong.
6:26
There was another sale that same day, last Tuesday, Casey, out in Moikwa, Illinois.

12 MINS LATER

18:08
So there's going to be some of that comes into play.
10:37
What you got for the pick of the week, bud?
10:39
Well, pick of the week, we're going last Tuesday.
10:41
Our friends at Ritchie Brothers had a U.S. agriculture equipment auction with some of their Midwest sites, a lot of it from Medford, Minnesota, just over to my west a little bit.
10:50
But I think the pick of the week, I'd probably say, Chip, was the Combine, the 24-model John Deere S780, 476 engine hours on it.
10:59
It did have a John Deere power guard warranty until mid-April of 27 or 750 hours, but it brought $414,000, which – When you look at it, that is the highest auction price on an S780 with over 450 engine hours in two and a half years.
11:55
What are you starting to think about these combine prices? Because we've gone three weeks in a row now of mentioning some combine prices that were a little stiffer than what we'd been talking about.
12:07
Yeah, I think used combines, if they're good condition, definitely have jumped up here the last half of June.
12:13
Another example would be a different sale last Tuesday out in a Moequa, Illinois by Schmidt Auction.
6:00
we are in the new normal, like you termed that quite a while ago,
6:03
and I think you're on it.
6:04
This is unprecedented set of circumstances in the used market right now.
6:09
But definitely with combines, there's tons of momentum.
6:13
I mean, if we go back the next – well, so that was June 23rd, the Musser brothers, but if we back up like five days – June 18th, there was that sale we talked about last week, Poplar Grove, Illinois, where they had that 24 model S770 deer with, I think, let's see, hours.
6:30
It was 243 engine hours, went for $446.
6:36
It's the highest auction price ever on an S770.

11 MINS LATER

17:37
So it's kind of working itself through to where we're seeing some higher values on the auction side because of that.
