The workday is over, but we're just getting started.
0:22
Welcome back to the After Office Hours podcast.
0:26
We're coming back with part two of this series on flock cameras.
0:33
And to start this episode off, I'm going to start with a story.
0:36
About 20 years ago, I had the worst day of my entire life.
0:42
There was a tip that was called in where I worked.
0:46
I was working at the Wisconsin State Fair.

They can pull that right out of the air.
0:56
What were the responses from the residents like? whether that be in person or on social media, how did people react to this?
1:05
So let's start with, I could hear a lot of our public concerned about Flock.
1:14
And we, just so happens, we were having to, I was getting questions about when did we install these? When was it discussed? Why wasn't the community told anything? Well, again, the best we can do is to make sure that everybody goes and looks at our city council agendas.
1:35
There's a lot of things going on.
1:36
And you don't get a lot of input from the city usually, right, until there's something like this.
1:44
And I say that smiling.
1:45
And I want, I for one want people to get involved.

14 MINS LATER

15:36
But what was that like making that decision independently kind of before you heard heard that from Governor Abbott?

1:28
How did that decision come about? And kind of when you were in the initial stages of the process, what was the first impressions when they were presenting the idea to you?
1:38
So the first time it was talked about in council was June of 2025.
1:42
And when we found out about the flock cameras, it came to us as a grant.
1:48
The grant was actually named after catalytic converters because we all know what a mess the catalytic converters were over the last year before that in the state of Texas.
1:58
So they kind of named the grant the catalytic converter grant to begin with.
2:01
And so we started discussing what it was, what we could get.
2:05
At the time, we were looking at where is Robinson? Where is our crime rate? What's happening? Well, we had had several car burglaries.

Could we jump back and just hear a little bit from you about what happened when you decided to move forward in terms of officer training, getting the cameras actually put up, sort of the system running and kind of telling the men and women on your police force how to use these cameras?
8:25
Uh, what did you make of the performance overall?
8:27
Well, I suppose the, the first thing to say is, um, it's felt like an eternity we've waited for, for England to play at this tournament.
8:34
You know, we're, we're six days in and, and there's a lot of, a lot of nerves and a lot of build up and a lot of thoughts about, you know, what's this team gonna look like under, under Thomas Tuchel.
8:43
We've obviously seen some of the, the warmup games, uh, and stuff, but you don't really get a sense of the, of the true squad until the tournament kicks off, and they've got that real, real pressure of competing in, in, on, on the world stage.
8:56
Um, but overall, y- uh, absolutely fantastic.
9:00
Um, I think we, we got off to a, a bit of a nervy start, which I think is, um, fair enough, and I think we've seen a lot of, a lot of those nerves coming out, uh, right across the board, um, on, uh, from, from all the teams.
9:13
But, um, no, I think, um, what...
13:43
Who played well? Who didn't play well? Who are your star men?
15:27
So what made you decide to go out on your own and did you see an opportunity in the market? Did you just get fed up with kind of how this company was running or how the industry was running? What was the inspiration behind it?
15:43
Yeah.
15:43
And let me go back.
15:44
I loved where I was.
15:45
I genuinely loved it.
15:46
Loved the people, loved the management, loved the team, loved the company.
15:49
I'm still a shareholder all these years later.

15 MINS LATER

30:27
Walk us through the journey of building the company, right? So what does year one look like? You and your brother, was you guys always on the same page? Any conflicts there?
22:39
Like, what's, what's this about her approach that, you know, maybe people on the outside wouldn't see that goes into this consistency?
22:47
Yeah, I, I think it, it kind of starts with how she treats herself, first and foremost, right, from a nutrition standpoint to being in the weight room, uh, standpoint.
22:54
Um, so, you know, I, uh, I was kind of in charge of our skill sessions these last few years, um, you know, Monday through Thursday, in the front half of the week.
23:02
Uh, she was out there constantly.
23:05
Um, and, and [laughs] being someone from, like, kind of more the offensive mind, the forward mind, um, like, we, we didn't do specific, like, defenseman things oftentimes there.
23:16
Like, I would try to incorporate it, of course, but if I have a group of eight, and six of them are forwards and two are D, naturally it's gonna be kind of more to the offensive side of things.
23:24
Um, and she never, I mean, she rarely ever missed.
26:15
Um, there's a lot of young listeners, uh, listening to our podcast, and we always like to ask the coaches, this is a little bit more of a tougher question, but if a young player wants to, to play and, and be like Nelly Leitonen on the ice one day, um, what do you, what do you think they should learn from her first?
