When did you know that this would be the trajectory of your career in life?

Well, when I was 17 years old, I decided I wanted to be a winemaker.

I used to ride my bicycle up from wherever I was working the summer and meet my parents in the wine country.

But I would stop at a tasting room because back in those days in the early 70s, nobody… Really cared.

And they'd see my bicycle with camping gear on it.

They'd say, well, where are you going to spend the night? I'd say, oh, up at the park up there.

And then they'd say, oh, would you like a hot shower? Or we have a spare bedroom.
