So what is the initial story for you to start this project?

Yeah, so we started this project with that background knowledge and some of our previous studies with this simple question of, is there a daily rhythm when grasses build their secondary cell walls? And as I mentioned, we knew from previous work that stem elongation in grasses is strongly influenced by temperature.

But nobody had really looked at whether this process of reinforcing the stems followed this daily rhythm.

So that was what we set out to answer.

And it quickly got challenging.

The problem was, there's no real good way to measure when the cells are thickening.

It happens at this microscopic scale.

So after going through all of these hurdles and making things work, what exactly do you want the audience to remember as a take-home message from your paper?
