Makers, in Kentucky terms, isn't that old, which I think surprises a lot of people.

Greg ButteraGUEST
uh because it's so deeply under woven into the culture of the whole american whiskey industry at this point uh but you know we were founded in 1953 so as you said got some history as one of the you know eight heritage distilleries in kentucky but um but we are young compared to a lot of our peer distilleries, but like you're alluding to, the actual place where we make Maker's Mark has a history that goes a lot farther back than the early 1950s.

Greg ButteraGUEST
So, there was originally a distillery in Gristmill called the Burke Spring Distillery, and It started operations in 1805.

Greg ButteraGUEST
So for context, that's like 13 years after Kentucky was founded as a Commonwealth.

Greg ButteraGUEST
It is 29 years after the Declaration of Independence was signed, the Burke Spring Distillery started operating, and two years after the Louisiana Purchase, when we bought the entire central swath of the country from Napoleon in France during the Napoleonic Wars.

So when you guys are going to dump and batch something, how do you guys determine what's going to become standard maker's 101 or cast strength or 46?
