What has being a chaplain done to shape the way that you interact with your family? Those that are further on in life and those that are coming
15:06
behind? I think, well, being a chaplain in hospice specifically has made me realize how, in general, our society is pretty far removed from the death process.
15:20
And having lived in a third world country where people live in a very intimate village setting I've I've heard people wail over their loved ones and it's it's a process that everyone knows is going on everyone's a part of it everyone's a part of creating the feast you know for the funeral and and here at least in in the US, I think we're pretty far removed.
15:51
And so being in hospice and being a chaplain has just made me realize how kind of sacred the dying process is, how I want that to go in my own family as I begin losing family members.
16:07
Not that, I hope that's not anytime soon, but just being aware of it and realizing how special and important it is to be involved in that process for family members, I think would be how I would answer that question.

So what would you say has been the most rewarding experience, something you've learned in this role as a chaplain where you're like, I don't think I could have learned that, experienced that, heard that, witnessed that anywhere else in the world?
21:14
I think something that has stood out to me in hearing people's stories is they, and just watching, you know, sometimes they might not say it out loud, but you can see it.
21:27
And that is, I think, and you touched on it earlier, just like all these accolades and things that we achieve during our life, you know, we still ultimately end up leaving the same way.
