okay now if anyone's ever followed our videos on social media they will have seen previous videos more recently by you about the two different types of powers of attorney do you want to run through those and what each of those does
26:16
yes be glad to do that so so yes as you've mentioned mark that you know they've separated in designing uh lasting powers of attorney the um the body that created this new system 20 years ago decided that we should have two parallel types of decision taken care of.
26:35
So there is a lasting power of attorney for property and financial affairs.
26:40
And then separately, there's a lasting power of attorney for health and welfare.
26:44
In the old regime long ago, you used to make one power of attorney, the enduring power of attorney that covered any decision that you would no longer be able to make if you lost capacity.
26:54
But now we have two parallel.
26:56
You can make one or the other or both, but they serve different functions.

In terms of the process, how would you go about it? Let's assume that someone comes to you and says, how am I going to go about doing this? What's the start point? What sort of hurdles did they have to go through before it's all done? And then when, I suppose, can you start using it? Or when do you decide you can start using it?

clarify that because people i mean i've i've been to funerals where that's probably the more expensive part of it oh absolutely you won't want people arranging a party on the assumption that it's going to be covered by a
11:43
absolutely you know depending on how lavish it is you know I mean I would certainly say that if you're thinking ahead for the future and you want to make life easier for your own nearest and dearest when your time comes one of the best things you can do is buy a funeral plan a prepaid funeral plan now obviously a lot of these are quite well advertised with big providers you know cooperative golden charter there's lots of them lots of different ways of paying for them as well you know you pay so much a month or you buy it outright and obviously all this kind of stuff.
12:14
But what you will find is any local funeral director is affiliated with a funeral plan provider.
12:21
Now, the beauty of this is that you've got the vast majority of it paid for this year.
12:26
And it doesn't matter if you pass away in 50 years time, it's paid for.
12:30
So you've insulated yourself against inflation.
12:33
for a start you know but the big thing is that your kids never have to be thinking oh my god how are we going to deal with this now because it's dealt with you know so so that is whenever i'm seeing a family for the first time i the ones that say to me oh yeah there was a funeral plan you can just see that the look of relief that crosses their face that they never had to deal with that you know so so yes in real life i totally understand you know how beneficial that is for the family on the other side of this event you know but equally how beneficial it is for you planning forward for this because yeah you've just saved your estate a ton of money as well So that's a really, really useful thing to be thinking about.

you put that into a situation where people aren't as close or there is there is there is a bit more ambiguity or people are struggling a bit more emotionally with it and you can see why it would rapidly run off into
