... visual.
41:49
Yes, yes.
41:50
It was, like, a 15-minute visual documentary.
41:53
Um, and that one really, um...
41:56
This- I'd met this producer, Dan Silver, who was at 30 for 30 Films at ESPN, and then they acquired, um, FiveThirtyEight.com and they wanted to do docs in the style of the 30 for 30 sports docs but about STEM, like computing, statistics, things like that.
42:13
And, um, he was watching Halt and Catch Fire, that show that was on AMC, and they made a passing reference I think talking about Mackenzie Davis's character, like, "You could be the next Grace Hopper." And he was like, "Who's that?" And he looked her up, and he realized that she was this woman who was very important in the earliest days of computing as, like, a industry, as a profession, um, and also on this secret computer on World War II.
42:38
And I'd met him, I pitched him sports docs that he was like, "That's sweet, but I can tell you don't know anything about sports." Um, but he...

15 MINS LATER

58:14
Tell me about getting that.
7:34
And Gillian.
7:35
The teacher called my mom and said she has no friends and she's talking to herself on the playground at recess and you need to find her an extracurricular activity so maybe she can make some friends.
7:48
And my mother had a moment of divine insight and said I'm going to sign her up for an acting class and that was it.
7:56
I fell deeply in love at about eight years old and yeah, since that moment on.
9:51
Yeah, you've got to now follow that.
9:53
I know.
9:54
I guess the thing that I think has served me well is that I'm a curious person who can get interested in a lot of different things.
10:03
And that's within the profession, remaining curious about learning more, when you're on a set learning more about everybody's job on the set and trying to figure out how the whole thing gets made and where your place is in that.
2:59
We're gonna be back Monday with a new episode of Comedy Bang Bang, but until then, enjoy this Bonus Bang.
3:04
[singing] Comedy Bang Bang.
3:09
Comedy Bang Bang.
3:10
Comedy Bang Bang.
3:11
Comedy Bang Bang.
3:11
Comedy Bang Bang.
3:12
Comedy Bang Bang.

8 MINS LATER

11:20
Oh.
3:36
I, I liked, um, how it dealt with coming of age and how it dealt with family and, um, you know, I was also glad that Robert was involved with the series as well, um, since he was the, created the comic and, you know, made me feel like the through line of that would, would go smoothly.
3:56
I mean, I've done some animated shows that are, um, aimed at an adult audience, but not a ton, so that I also thought was like, this is very much a show for adults.
4:07
Um, and so that was interesting where it really feels like a one-hour drama that just happens to be animated dealing with superheroes.
4:16
Um, and I really enjoyed that about it.
4:18
And as we've said, you know, in other interviews, like the scope and scale of what they're able to do with the plots of, of the episodes because it is animated, I thought they were really taking advantage of, um, animation as a form, um, and embracing that and using it to their advantage storytelling-wise.
4:37
So I really appreciated that.
4:39
Um, and I guess I've played a superhero maybe in, like, a one-off episode of other animated shows, but this was the first time I've gotten to do one that was over the course of multiple episodes, so it was also just fun for me as an actor to, to go on the ride.
6:48
And, um, you know, w- how are you dealing with your, I suppose, with your immediate world? And so I think it's sort of, I- I like that to her being useful in society [laughs] frankly isn't just because you are a superhero, but anybody can do that, and any small change is change ultimately.

Okay, so, uh, our next question, uh, it's also a voice message, which I will just play for you here.
32:12
Hey Roman, it's frequent 99PI contributor Gillian Jacobs.
32:16
(laughs)
32:16
And if you were to create a show called One Percent Visible, what would it be about?
