Jian didn't set out to create a niche, he just kept making work about the thing he couldn't stop thinking about.

I chose this as a piece that was a milestone in my career.

I'm a big MMA fan, and actually a big reason why I was able to get on the scene was just by doing MMA work just because I loved it.

So up until this point, working with the UFC, I'd been doing editorial illustrations for Vice's Fight Land, I'd been doing work for various MMA gyms featuring fighters, et cetera.

I even did stuff for Reebok, who were the official apparel of the UFC.

And this was kind of my first big assignment actually for the UFC, and it was for a card in my hometown in New York City at Madison Square Garden.
