How was it discussed with you about what they were planning to do?
27:17
It was John Ainsworth was the producer and he came to me and he said, look, we're doing this.
27:23
And I thought it was quite an interesting idea as a nice little sidestep.
27:26
And he explained to me what they wanted to do with Avalon and how they were building up this sort of this new group for Avalon to sort of lead.
27:34
And you could do stuff with Avalon that wasn't in any way tied into the timeline of the regular characters.
27:40
these stories could all be running parallel, certainly with sort of seasons one and two and probably three as well, who knows what happened to Avalon.
27:48
So I immediately said, and also he was talking about wanting, as I said, to create a set of new supporting characters.

36:31
When you're planning out a story, how do you break down where you're going to reveal information?
10:59
And I mean, is this, is this a concept that is something that people beli- you believe in it or, or is it just a, uh, narrative tool that's used by people when they're kind of creating worlds and universes, et cetera, or stories?
11:12
For me it's a, it...
11:13
I mean, I'd love to believe in, in parallel worlds and things.
11:16
I, you know, every decision you make creates a new ripple that goes in a fractionally different direction is, is an amazing concept.
11:23
Um, and, and the idea that, you know, I'm sitting in my living room at the moment, and actually there could be 20,000 alternative versions of me th- that have been created every other second because I just used my left hand to pick up a cup of tea, or should I have used my right hand to pick up the cup of tea? That's a fascinating idea and very slightly terrifying and egotistical.
11:44
But I think in fiction it is more about the whole sort of the, the Rome that never fell kind of idea of, of alternative realities, and I think it's a really fascinating one because it's a, a very good way of telling a story, uh, that j- you know, there's no rules, there's no reset button at the end.
12:05
So you can do something, if you're writing about characters you love and they're the, the series regulars or they, they're the, your, your cheerful, happy characters, you can kill them off at the end in, in the alternative reality.

8 MINS LATER

20:39
Yeah.
32:29
So now, time to join producer, director and script editor Gary Russell for a trip behind the scenes with Sky
32:37
into the chaos.
32:39
My name is Gary Russell and on this run of Sky, I, as well as producing and directing, have script edited it.
32:46
Volume one, we were setting up everything leading up to the creation of the Calyx and putting Earth in jeopardy.
32:54
and so for for volume two for into the chaos
Martin SpeleysiSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
32:57
we
32:58
decided that we now needed to see not the resolution of it but the side effects of it so we see at the beginning the first episode that gary wrote um we see people coming together uh and and finding a meeting place and going how you know somehow we have survived the calyx we've survived what's gone on we know time is running out because the air will go eventually but it's about bringing together a new set of characters for this second season on top of our existing ones.
33:30
And then the series goes off on a little jaunt as we show the ultimate what happens if you give ultimate power to the ultimate people.
