What's your most memorable story or experience of covering England, whether that's in a tournament or otherwise?

I think I enjoyed Euro 96 the most for lots of reasons, including the fact that it was here.

I loved all my trips abroad in the European Champions League.

I did massive boxing around the world, did football, seven World Cups.

None of them in England knows World Cups.

I wasn't involved in 66.

I was a 21-year-old journalist then, still in Cambridge.

As somebody who's covered England over many years and been up close and personal with a lot of the individuals involved and the teams that have represented England over the decades, why do you think the England team and its success matters so much to the people of this country? Good question.
