... uh, first I just wanna say how, how proud I am of everyone that you mentioned.

Uh, they didn't need me to be leaders and to be accomplished leaders.

Uh, I may have played a small role in contributing to their careers, but they, they all would've been successful with me, without me.

But I am also very gratified that I was able to play that role, I think.

Um, and it was intentional.

I, I think, um, you know, one of the goals of, of a good leader, uh, is to be able to, to replicate yourself.

So what has Aggie Square taught you about the university's commitment to serving as a regional economic engine and about earning community, um, commitment rather than automatically assuming it?

Um, so what has been some of the most beneficial advice you have received to date?

Well, I've gotten much advice over my life and my career.

I think, you know, starting with my parents who, uh, you know, the u- the old advice was, "Now, go do that homework, boy." [laughs] Uh, and then, uh, we kind of progressed from there to, uh, you know, my dad used to tell me how important it was to, to have your own things, uh, to be independent, uh, to have your own opinions, to make up your own mind, and to be, uh, consistent with your, with your views.

Um, over the course of my career, I've gotten good advice about what, uh, uh, jobs were good jobs, what jobs were not as attractive, um, you know, how to stay successful, um, you know, um, what, uh, networks were important to be a part of.

Um, you know, in, in my, my current career, you know, I've had mentors that have guided me in how to be s- you know, statesman-like, you know, how to, uh, be a better, um, uh, public speaker.

Um, and again, what associations are important for you to continue and, and others that are not as important because there are many demands on your time in this role.

So, um, I've had some good advice about, uh, what, uh, organizations, uh, would, would be useful to be a part of and what, uh, uh, or what other associations it's better to delegate.
