How do you think this hot summer is shaping the conservatives' approach going into the fall?

Well, I think you have to rewind a little bit to just before the summer session.

Sorry, just before the break of the House.

In June, before summer began, I think it's fair to say that talking to conservative caucus members, talking to conservative staff members, there was an exhaustion.

They had gone through a lot of turmoil in the spring, losing caucus members, floor crossings.

And I think they were just happy to get out and try to get into their constituencies, see their constituents, spend some time on the barbecue circuit locally.

Fast forward to the Calgary Stampede where Mr. Polio gave his speech and, whether by design or by accident, launched a broadside at a few people in the conservative movement, some aligned with Doug Ford, some who had even worked on his own campaign.

So there's a provincial dynamic to this, isn't there?

But I think v- at foremost is having Prime Minister Carney there shows the commitment of the government and how they believe in the industry, and they're proud to be standing there with the industry.

We're seeing a big push of an, from a number of countries that came to CANSEC this year.

I think probably the two biggest headliners, uh, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, uh, was here in attendance.

He was here for, uh, a number of reasons, including trying to promote, uh, the, uh, the German entry into the submarine procurement that Canada is, is currently engaged in.

So he was certainly the biggest name that was here.

Uh, the Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz was also in attendance, and that's notable too because Canada is the country of focus in Poland's version of CANSEC, which is coming up in September in Poland, so this is a bit of a preliminary, uh, visit here.

So, uh, in addition to, uh, these two big names, you had a number of smaller delegations from a wide range of countries, uh, including you had Ukraine, a, a large number of folks from the Ukraine Defense Ministry here.

In the context of defense, this can be a good thing because it provides a variety of options to the government, but it also comes with risks.
