When Gardai questioned Cooke on his deathbed, he could only give yes/no answers, but he did appear to indicate that he knew Philip Kearns.

Now, he denied murdering Philip, but apparently detectives had gone and questioned him on two occasions while he was in the hospice.

This is Gareth O'Callaghan, a former DJ with Radio Dublin and 2FM, who has always harbored doubts about the connection between Eamon Cooke and Philip Kearns.

It didn't make sense to me because he was in a very, very late stage of Alzheimer's.

How could they extract a confession from him? They said he confessed to knowing Philip, and I think that set the cat among the pigeons and immediately decided for a lot of people, "This is the guy.

He knew Philip."
