And for listeners who may not be familiar with Ifa, I'd love for you to give us a general overview and especially the core five blessings that you go through in the book and why they're so important.
13:48
Ifa is a 10,000-year-old tradition from West Africa, and it's primarily practiced in modern-day Nigeria and Benin.
13:57
And at its core, it's a very nature-based tradition.
14:01
There's a creator in Ifa called Olodumare, and everything in the universe is a different aspect of Olodumare.
14:08
So if you wanted to, like, actually understand the creator, you would have to basically take every single thing that's made up in the universe as a whole, and that together is Olodumare.
14:19
So we're Olodumare, the trees are Olodumare, like, the Orishas are Olodumare.
14:24
All of that together is the creator.

You had your own relationship to Ifa and some of these practices, but as you started embarking on writing the book and doing research, was there anything that surprised you or that you had left with a different or deeper understanding of as you were writing the book?
