And so that building surveyor is the one who helps protect you from dodgy work or a building that's not up to standard.

Indeed, and it is one of our biggest problems in communicating that is that we are there to look after the owner, assist the owner to get the quality product that they're asking for with compliance.

We don't do quality assurance on whether a cupboard door shuts and whether it's straight line straight up and down and the paintwork's got marks in it.

That's not the level of inspection or control that we have.

Our control is over compliance with the construction standards of the Act and the regulations and the Building Code of Australia.

So, yeah, there's a conflict there.

People see us as a clerk of works where we're there to tick off the paint.

So is part of the solution as well maybe to get some random inspections of work or how can we actually stop? Because it seems like there are some building surveyors who probably aren't taking their job as seriously as they should.
