My thinking on human purpose has actually changed quite profoundly over the years.

And I think when you really confront the scale of ecological destruction we've caused, it's very easy to fall into the belief that sort of humans are the problem, that we're somehow this cancer on Earth and perhaps the rest of the living world would be better off without us, which I would say was a position that I used to occupy, but I actually don't believe that anymore.
