What is the genius of the business model of Federal Express?

Well, I think FedEx, um, was a, as most things, um, are that, that tend to be revolutionary like, uh, penicillin.

People looked at mold for years and never realized it was the solution to, uh, to infection.

Uh, and, and, and FedEx was a very simple concept that simply said, uh, you would use an integrated air/ground network, trucks and planes, with a hub-and-spoke network that would allow you to move things overnight from any point to any other point.

So where did you get the idea?

Well, I, I, uh, I began to realize that, that the country was going to automate when I was in college.

I became convinced that, that once you automate, you have to be able to move things faster to keep that equipment going.

And then the methodology for solving the business problem was, was in common use in telecommunications and banking, clearing houses.
