So did you want to tell listeners all about yourself?
3:29
I am a self-published author who have written in the genres of alternate history and horror.
3:38
I have three alternate history books.
3:41
One is Beating Plowshares into Swords, which is an alternate history of the Vietnam War.
3:47
I have another one called All the Way with JFK, an alternate history of 1964, which is about what if Kennedy died Was not assassinated in Dallas and lived to run for re-election.
4:03
And my latest one is World War Nixon, an alternate history of the 1970s, which I premise that a bunch of things happened.
4:15
go differently, one of which is they don't arrest the Watergate burglars, and the opening to China collapses, and Nixon takes another strategy to end the Cold War.

31 MINS LATER

35:48
And they just don't know enough about, you know, the culture to know, you know, and being Americans of it's always like, well, what what puts money in our pocket if we put this guy in charge? Like, can we get a kickback? and um but also with that too they always hear war is money so like oh hey the mexican revolution like not only are we making money from other countries but also we can just pillage and take whatever we want and nobody will know
5:18
But I would just love, Dr. Schaefer, knowing your history with HRV, how do we get in this mess, in your opinion? There never seems to be a point in the literature that I found that Like somebody said, this is definitely sympathetic activation, but I'd love to just get your historical perspective on how we get into this mess in the first place.
5:49
It's always hard to backtrack and determine when a myth took hold in the field.
6:02
There is, of course, a herd mentality in research, but also in clinical work, in which you follow the opinion leaders, and you don't question the opinion.
6:22
I think that we start with a misunderstanding of what low frequency power obtained over short periods of time really represents.
6:38
And this isn't entirely pinned down yet.
6:44
The best guess is, and a lot depends on what the person is doing at the time.
6:51
So the measurement conditions, the breathing rate, the breathing depth, posture? Are they sitting, standing, lying face down, lying on their back? All of these can influence our measurements.
9:26
Are we talking more when we talk about sympathetic contribution? Are we talking about vagal activity? withdrawal that allows a little bit more of the sympathetic activation or are we talking about something that's happening like on the sa node in the heart that's you know when we when we use these terminologies as it applies in the sympathetic are are we ever i think we see sympathetic activation in the bear reflex maybe but not like time domains but i just love to get any clarity from you on this issue that you hear talked about many different ways.
4:26
I've
4:26
always found that I could.
4:27
A lot of times I'll sit down at the computer and know I you you feel like you're not into it or whatever.
4:37
But I feel like when you start writing, just say to yourself, I'm gonna write one sentence.
4:44
I'm just gonna write one sentence, one coherent sentence.
4:47
And one sentence can lead to another sentence.
4:51
Soon you've got three sentences.

1 HR LATER

65:01
He knows his niche.
0:00
You know, there's all kinds of scenes that I respond to in movies.
0:02
I respond to music sequences.
0:05
Ah, I respond to big comedy sequences.
0:07
It was like, ah, they galvanized the, the entire theater.
0:11
Everybody, ah, woke up.
0:13
Everybody got connected.

38 MINS LATER

38:35
Yeah.
38:36
But yeah, the whole part is the Sterling Hayden character sets the ri- broken ribs of a guerrilla, and, you know, uh, and then is arrested by the, the ca- the Union Army and charged as conspiracy with this guy, and he's railroaded through a military court.
