How is this fish being treated with respect to, like, ESA listing status? 'Cause on the one hand, TNC's conserved land, at the same time, you know, it's very habitat limited, things can happen.

Fred MonzykGUEST
So yeah, the species got listed not because of concerns about population level.

Fred MonzykGUEST
You know, there was the possibility that geothermal energy development might interfere with the amount of water coming into the lake, and it was the fragility of the shoreline that the landowners cut into for irrigation purposes, and then there was some recreational activity happening out there.

Fred MonzykGUEST
People were driving four-wheel drive vehicles on the biomorphic mound that this lake sits on.

Fred MonzykGUEST
So for all these reasons, that was the concern with the species, not necessarily population level.

Fred MonzykGUEST
It was listed back in 1982, and the Nature Conservancy was able to start leasing the land and outright purchase it soon after that.

Fred, do you have any recommendations on any other native fish to cover in the future?
