Anne LeeHOST
Tell me about what you've done traditionally and why you might've changed things up a bit.

Fraser TaskerGUEST
Okay, so our support block I didn't mention before is dry land, so no irrigation at all, but we do sit in an area where historically we get around that 950 mils rainfall a year.

Fraser TaskerGUEST
And it always used to be, if I look back at my grandfather's and father's rainfall records, they always pointed out to June being our driest month and December our wettest.

Fraser TaskerGUEST
But in the last several years, December has been pretty dry and January, February have been the damper months.

Fraser TaskerGUEST
So we are dry land, but still with reasonable rainfall and pretty good stony silt loam type soils that hold on to that moisture okay.

Fraser TaskerGUEST
So historically, we'd wintered our cows on a balance of fodder, beet and kale, and that worked really well as far as driving dry matter production per hectare and looking at those sorts of metrics.
