help the new zealand health system offered no support at the public system no support at any point along the journey and showed no ability to come up with with answers my big concern is that if my daughter in this country that i love the medical system that i largely trust and pay taxes for i want to know that it's going to be there for her if she has any more problems whether they think we made the right decision or not.

I just want to hear an affirmation from Health New Zealand that yes, if your daughter has a problem, we're going to help.

And so far, that's not been on the table.

When the mention of an EDS diagnosis has come up, the system just goes, no, we don't have enough knowledge.

The next morning he goes back to the hospital and smiles at his daughter lying in bed

Trying to keep, uh, make sure th- her environment wasn't affected.

And then the next nights I would go back to the hotel room.

I'd sit in the bathroom, and I'd cry.

And at the time that was extremely hard, uh, 'cause your job as a parent is to protect a child, and there's no way you'd take someone to Germany to deal with an unknown system if the answers had been in place here or other options had been put on the table.

Um, yeah, I mean the proof is in the pudding now, but [laughs] but that time in the clinic was, was really, really hard just in terms of what had got into my head and the way that that lingered in my head.

... that doesn't understand mental health, and it was all seen as demonic.

Uh, she ended up interpreting it like that.

So there was a lot of stuff that went on in that very early church environment that caused a lot of anger and resentment in me.

And because of her mental health, she didn't handle social situations very well.

So it wouldn't take long for her to feel like she had offended someone, or someone else had offended her, and she didn't have the tools to work that through.
