How do you speak to those who are calling so much of what data centers now are known for in some places and theorized to bring in other places, how they're calling that out?
13:26
Well, yeah, certainly public concern about data center impacts have, that concern has intensified.
13:31
It's the reason that the project for middle class renewal at the University of Illinois and we at Aleppi jointly conducted this report.
13:38
And yeah, nine in 10 Illinois residents agree that data centers should bring their own clean energy and use cooling systems that don't drain water supplies.
13:47
And so we think this comprehensive study can help guide the roadmap to what comes next.
13:52
And really the roadmap is dealing with that trust deficit that exists.
13:55
Illinois can ensure responsible development of data centers to address that deficit.
15:36
I'm sure you've mentioned maybe a couple just in the last minute or two, but what is the single most important proposal on that list?
44:43
Is that sustainable, especially with the attack on the federal sector? What do you think?
44:48
Yeah, I think two points on that.
44:49
One is that it would have been even larger than $400,000 if states did not have so-called right-to-work laws.
44:57
We found there's basically an equal number of states that protect collective bargaining and states that have right-to-work.
45:05
And the workforces of both those types of states are roughly equivalent.
45:09
But in the states that protect collective bargaining, union membership grew three times faster.
45:13
So we would expect 300,000 members from the so-called right to work states instead of 100,000 if they were not so-called right to work.
48:19
Any final thoughts here? I mean, obviously, the survey, I guess my last question would be, where does this go? Does this go to a right-to-work state here and say, hey, hey, you guys, you could be doing a whole lot better here? I'm just wondering, what's the process here, Frank?
5:56
think?
5:56
No, that's right, everyone.
5:57
There's kind of three points to that.
5:59
The first is that just more and more workers are turning towards unions as a bulwark against the rising cost of living and against threats that they're perceiving.
6:05
And on that second point is that, yeah, the federal government, the president tried to strip collective bargaining agreements from more than one million workers at the federal government level.
6:14
Right.
6:15
that was tied up in litigation for all of last year.
