Okay, Fleur, over to you.
5:12
Absolutely.
5:13
So I am a mom of three, and a few years ago, four years ago nearly, my son was diagnosed with a terminal brain disease.
5:21
And it was obviously devastating, and we needed a lot of time to come to terms with it.
5:27
But I started writing a book shortly after he was diagnosed.
5:30
It just felt like something that I wanted to do.
5:34
Initially, it was gonna be his memoir, just something I kept in the family that we could come back to, particularly for my other children who were 10 and 6 at the time, for them to look at the memories and to see what he added to our family.

What about those folks who right now they feel like their lives have completely gone off plan? What would you tell people like that?
7:37
What was his name? What was his personality like? And walk the podcast family through how you learned of his diagnosis.
7:46
Absolutely.
7:46
So his name was Toby, and he was the middle child.
7:51
He was funny, stubborn, and, yeah, obsessed with trains.
7:57
Everything had something to do with a train.
7:59
He loved to play with them on his wooden track, he loved to go on them, he loved to watch TV about them, he loved to read about them.
8:07
There was-- His whole life, trains weren't just his passion, trains were part of his soul.

How you were, um, let's talk about how you were misdiagnosed and-
KaylaHOST
25:31
How important has humor been for your family? And can you maybe share one of those moments where everything went completely sideways and you guys just had to move past it by like maybe laughing through it or creating a joke around it?
25:47
You know what, there were so many situations with Tobes where we said even at the moment of like, if we don't laugh about this, then we're going to cry.
25:58
And I remember one particular in that Toby had to move into wearing pads.
26:03
He wasn't able to go to the toilet because he lost pretty much all his abilities.
26:08
And we went in one night and he had pooed in his pads and it was terrible.
26:15
Everywhere he'd sat in his beanbag, he'd smeared it all over his carpet.
26:19
And we were about to change his floor anyway to a half floor because this had happened one or two more times than we could stand.

What does that mean to you? And how have you learned to make room for the grief and uncertainty without allowing them to take away the joy that was still happening around you? Yeah.
