So my first question is, when you look back at the earlier chapters of your life before nursing or academia entered the picture, what were the experiences most shaped how you saw yourself and the world around you?

I mean, I think the abiding memories of my earlier life are framed by the fact that my father was alcoholic.

And once he provided well for us and ensured we got a good education, there was always a sense of precarity in the house, a sense of jeopardy, because He could come in and there could be fighting, there could be arguments.

There was violence as well.

And so I think that was probably the biggest thing which I look back on.

And I've tried to push that aside and not look back on this as being a main factor.

For nurses listening, you know, with the pressures they're under every day, what would you say to them to help them to hold on to those core values when the pressures are coming at them every single day in practice?
