Why hasn't Arch developed into the player that – hand-raised the player that most of us expected he would be after four years with Sark and Milwee and everyone else?
22:41
Starting with the fastball, man, it's frustrating, isn't it? For pretty much anyone who's not a, you know, hater of the Longhorn program, I think a lot of people after the start of last year were kind of rooting for Arch, and he really turned it around at the end of 2025, and he was one of the best statistical passers of the year.
23:02
He ended the year about as good as anyone.
23:04
Maybe I started training at Chambliss and you're thinking, yeah, why wouldn't we believe in this guy? And the answer for why, it's really hard to tell.
23:11
I think it does kind of come down to some of what's going on with this scheme with Sarkeesian.
23:16
There's a lot of just... predetermined nature to this where you know you think of a Steve Sarkisian offense you you want to think of this idea of these really intricate RPOs and that that's mixed with some NFL style you know deep passing and getting everyone involved and having a lot of different options and A lot of times when it's out on the field, it feels like, yeah, maybe it's an RPO, but really it's just a handoff unless something truly breaks out or it's a screen pass that's never going to be handed off to the running back.
23:44
And it feels like a lot of what Steve Sarkisian is doing is making the decision on the sideline and then Arch Manning from there is just being forced to execute that.
26:58
All right, so Arch Manning, what would it take for them to actually sit him?
3:22
Uh, but man, what's the, what's the mood like in, in town this week coming off of that Red River rivalry loss?
3:29
Frustrated, for sure.
3:30
Uh, and that, that's kinda how everyone feels a- for the Longhorns right now because, uh, kind of the things that showed up early this year that, uh, s- were kind of alleviated by the wins being wins against Ohio State, against Tennessee.
3:43
Y- we're saying throughout the week h- heading into Red River, and we're saying throughout the season heading into, well, what's gonna be a tough SEC slate, "Hey, like the, the, these are real problems that Texas is, is facing." And they're gonna need to clean some of them up if they wanna continue to win football games, continue to kinda make their mark as one of these five to seven true contenders this year, uh, for a title.
4:01
And, uh, if not, they're gonna find themselves losing a game or two they probably should have won.
4:05
And what do you know, uh, e- the exact formula that Oklahoma needed to win, a defensive touchdown, a special teams touchdown, Texas' offense going quiet, the run game going in their favor.
4:14
All that happened, and the Longhorns lose a game that realistically they should have won.
7:24
And then what do you make of some of their, their, their skill players and, and, and the guys that maybe Florida fans should be watching for? And obviously we can start with Coleman.
23:37
Hollywood Smothers, what's the latest you hear there with the starting running back for Texas, and what else should we know about the health or the status of Texas' players?
23:46
Yeah, I mean, questionable is the correct terminology there.
23:50
We expected him to be on the report come Wednesday night.
23:53
We expected him to be in that questionable category.
23:55
And you hope with some of these players, you know, Wednesday night questionable can mean anything.
23:58
Thursday night it starts to become a real question if he's going to play on Saturday.
24:02
So that would be a big blow to the Longhorns.
25:19
Man, talk to me a little bit about how deep this front is, how productive they've been so far this year.
0:39
But starting with the health front, Hollywood Smothers, what's the latest you hear there with the starting running back for Texas? And what else should we know about the health or the status of Texas' players?
0:51
Yeah, I mean, questionable is the correct terminology there.
0:55
We expected him to be on the report come Wednesday night.
0:58
We expected him to be in that questionable category.
1:00
And you hope with some of these players, you know, Wednesday night questionable can mean anything.
1:03
Thursday night it starts to become a real question if he's going to play on Saturday.
1:07
So that would be a big blow to the Longhorns.
5:46
What have you learned about Texas' offense so far in the first three weeks of the season? What questions still remain about Arch Manning and the Longhorns' offense?
1:18
Uh, Tayanithy Smith, uh, what, what was the vision, the role for Tayanithy Smith, and what is the, the status of that position now?
1:30
Yeah, so I think e- exiting last year's Citrus Bowl, you know, he had two interceptions in that game, and was definitely seen as a, as a core likely starter for the linebacker room.
1:38
And, and that was kind of the game plan going into the spring, was even after Raheem Byles and, and Justin Cryer arrived, that this would probably be a Byles-Smith linebacker duo when you're in your 4-2-5 under Will Muschamp.
1:49
And, and it may be a little undersized, but those are the two most talented guys.
1:53
But, you know, Smith had to deal with the surgery in the off-season, and, and Cryer, frankly, was, was the better linebacker in the fall and, and had kind of asserted himself in the spring.
2:01
So you have, you know, Smith coming in with a, a new defensive coordinator off an injury, never really got up to the weight he should've been playing at.
2:08
I mean, around 218 pounds as a linebacker is not what you're hoping for, especially at the Mike position, which he probably would've, would've been playing mostly.
5:45
That was a huge issue that it could absolutely be fixed this year.
