Carol CoxHOST
How have you approached taking your signature talk and repurposing it for these different audiences?

Erin MarkGUEST
I think I had to ask myself one question for each talk I was doing, and it kind of all starts with, what should I talk about to this audience, and how does that message serve this audience best while using my expertise? So I have the same talk essentially that I do with these slight customizations depending on the audience that I'm talking to.

Erin MarkGUEST
If I'm doing a short talk, say it is that PechaKucha or maybe a Disrupt HR, you technically only have either five minutes or six minutes.

Erin MarkGUEST
I can't tell some big story arc in five to six minutes, right? So I'm gonna pick out one single story with one single message.

Erin MarkGUEST
Normally, it's going to revolve around uncertainty or change or burnout, which is really the three topics that I talk about most.

... based on the topic, and then what you ended up doing and what the results were?

And so Erin, can you tell us a little bit about your story? What brought you to where you are today, in case listeners haven't listened to the prior episode that you were on, and then we'll go from there as far as thinking about how to take a story and turn it into a bigger message.

Erin MarkGUEST
So I was born with a terminal illness called cystic fibrosis, and doctors told my parents I wouldn't live past 18.

Erin MarkGUEST
And I found that out early on because I overheard my dad on the phone one night, I was very nosy, listening, [laughs] quietly saying my life expectancy out loud.

Erin MarkGUEST
So while most kids were dreaming about their future, I was trying to grasp that I wouldn't get one.

So Erin, tell us a little bit about the story scoping package and, and what, how you envision working with our clients on that.
