So given that the El Nino will sort of begin very soon at the beginning of hurricane season, how does an El Nino affect the Atlantic hurricane season?

Erik SmithGUEST
So every time, you know, about this time of year, May, you start to see the hurricane forecasts roll out.

Erik SmithGUEST
And that's because about this time of year, everybody turns and puts eyes on what the El Nino forecast is going to be.

Erik SmithGUEST
And there's a lot of confidence this year that the El Nino Southern Oscillation is going to be in that warm phase, the El Nino phase.

Erik SmithGUEST
El Nino tends to, for the eastern U.S., Canada, eastern Mexico, folks in the Caribbean, tends to drive less frequent hurricanes, which is good news.

Erik SmithGUEST
El Nino increases something called wind shear, which is just how the wind speeds change from the surface to upper Earth.

So how, how can these predictions change and fluctuate and our discussion around them change and fluctuate over, you know, the rest of the year?
