to lead this, but I'm going to go ahead and maybe just ask Eric if he would tell us a little bit about the foundation.

Absolutely.

I'm so honored and grateful to be on with you guys today.

So March 3rd, 2011, my wife and I are told that our beautiful, loving 11 year old daughter has cancer.

And obviously terrible news to when you hear your child has cancer and then they followed up with its terminal and she'll have 12 to 18 months.

So we quickly got Jessie on what's called a clinical trial to try to slow the progression of her tumor, which was in her brain stem.

It was called DIPG.

So if you talk to everybody about like what all you do for like what you do for the siblings and for the moms and, you know, just all around what you do.

[laughs]

And I said that because ever since growing up, and even before I had children, I always told myself, "My kids will never come home with a key around their neck." 'Cause that's what I did.

I came home to a lonely, empty home, um, with a key around my neck.

And so when I asked, "How much do you pay?" It was more like, I don't wanna force my wife to have to work when she should be home raising our children, which is what she wanted to do.

I know some moms and stuff continue working, which is beautiful, but for, for me, I wanted to be able to provide that for my family and for my wife.

And so long story short, we were able to figure out some finances, and I started working at Saddleback in 1996, and had a great run, wrote a bunch of books, traveled around the world training pastors and church leaders, and all those kinds of things.

And, you know, then Rick writes a book called Purpose Driven Life that just, you know, was a skyrocketing best seller and all these kinds of things.

And then your wife wakes you up early, I think it's January 5th, 2012, and says, uh, "I'm, I'm really having a tough time waking her up this morning." Take us forward from there.
