so that's a learning experience that they're going through on the business side while they're trying to do legal work and handle their cases so what can attorneys do to prevent some of these common mistakes
4:25
i think support staff is so important hiring people that you trust and know how to handle that side of things and on the flip side of it you also have to be staying on top of it because ultimately it's on you at the end of the day you know is your trust account in order you know, you have somebody opening up the mail and making sure that things go where they need to do, paying out checks.
4:47
But yeah, I would say hiring support staff that really can, that is knowledgeable about all those things that you may be lacking with the caveat of being on top of that as well, because ultimately at the end of the day, you're the one responsible for your trust accounts for any sort of client matter that might come up.

And just in general communication with your clients, right now it's easiest to keep in communication with your clients between email, texting, but so often you either avoid that phone call that might be difficult or you have a client that wants to be kind of handheld and you push them aside because it's taking up too much of your time when really they kind of need that communication to make sure that they're being represented in the way that they want to be.

And those are the clients that end up frustrated later on if they felt like they weren't heard or if they felt like they didn't get the representation they wanted.

Those are the ones that are come back with, you know, complaints later on, too.

So what is preferable and what types of things should attorneys be keeping track of?

I think it's helpful that we have all these smartphones where you can go back and say, oh, I've talked to so-and-so on this day for this amount of time.
