Why do you think we've all accepted the idea, like at least at some level, that this is what the Supreme Court should be passing judgment on?

You're absolutely right.

This is not the court's role, and it wasn't for much of our history.

As to why we've accepted this, it is unfortunate that I think so much of our legal and political discourse says, well, the Supreme Court has ruled, throw up our hands, that's the end of the matter.

That's not how our country has operated.

It's not how our politics operated for most of its history, and it's incumbent upon us everyone really to to challenge the supreme court's interpretation of the first amendment which is so myopic so misguided and and fundamentally wrong um and and The reality is that regulating elections, regulating campaign spending is incredibly complicated.

It's something that balancing complicated policy choices is not the province of the courts.

Do we think that there are going to be big cases? Are they going to take a major wrecking ball to the campaign finance laws as they have done effectively with the Voting Rights Act? Are they going to continue to render them increasingly unusable, chipping away at them in decisions like the one from this week?
