Walk us through the current scene right now at Miami International, and, uh, really h- how did we get here as a whole, Eric?
49:13
Well, um, you know, on Sunday afternoon, this, um, Amazon cargo jet, a Boeing 767-300, it's a converted freighter, used to be a passenger plane, and it's, uh, was on its third flight of the day coming in from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
49:31
And the plane is operated by, um, a small contractor called 21 Air based in North Carolina.
49:39
Amazon has a large fleet and to support its parcel and logistics network around the country, but it doesn't actually fly the planes itself.
49:50
So it- outsources that to companies like 21 Air.
49:54
And, you know, from the flight data recorders and what the NTSB has said, and from video, y- you know, it appears the pilots ...
50:03
I think there were some s- storminess in the area, uh, at the time.

55:49
Guess for, you know, um, professional curiosity, how does that process exactly work, and, and how does it look, and what is the timeline for that?
59:15
But, uh, tell us a little bit about what this drone delivery is all about.
59:19
Yeah, you're right.
59:20
Uh, Craig, you know, Jeff Bezos, uh, at Amazon announced it was on, went on 60 Minutes in 2013 and announced we're gonna have this Prime Air drone delivery, and he, he made it sound it was, like it was gonna happen pretty soon.
59:37
But it's taken about 13 years.
59:39
They've been pilot testing it, as you said.
59:41
Um, I think they used to have a, you know, the, the variant that you're showing there in some of the videos, a, a six rotor, uh, helicopter or, or drone copter.
59:53
The previous version had like was an octocopter, so they've had some different variants that they've tested.

9 MINS LATER

68:35
So how is this, I guess, first of all, if these are small things, under five pounds, um, how much of, like, actual order volume for someone like Amazon does that cover? And then how are consumers looking at this? Is it go- going to be kind of like Prime Now or when you pay for the one-hour delivery for Walmart Plus? Like, how, how is it fitting into the marketplace?
109:56
What are these ghost freighters?
109:58
Yeah.
109:59
Well, um, I'm calling 'em ghost freighters.
110:01
That's what I've dubbed it.
110:02
Lufthansa Cargo, um, has...
110:06
You know, they're one of the largest all-cargo carriers in the world with a fleet of 777s, but they also operate Been operating for a few years, these, uh, narrow body Airbus A321 freighters, and, you know, kind of in a, a regional network in Europe and North Africa, targeted supposedly at e-commerce type of companies.
110:27
And they shut down the airline in April because the, they didn't fly those planes directly, they used a Lufthansa sister company called CityLine, and Lufthansa, with the fuel prices went up a- with the Iran war, they, uh, shut down CityLine, it was a little passenger carrier in Europe.
114:30
Is this a bad sign for, for Airbus?
